Job Description

The Van Driver provides support and supervision for the childcare center in transporting children, adults, and cargo in a 15-passenger van through the Rock Island community. This position will serve to transport to and from public schools, field trips, and all other required deliveries to other locations. This position will be responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep for the van.

Examples of Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Vehicle Operation

Ensure the safety and well-being of all children at all times. This includes audible and visual contact with children both inside and outside of the vehicle.
Maintain a neat, organized, and hazard-free vehicle.
Ensure that the vehicle is never left unattended at any time while transporting children.
Ensure sanitary and safety procedures are followed by all adults and children.
Assist children on and off the vehicle if needed.
Ensure all vehicle paperwork is accessible and current such as registration, insurance, and accident protocol.
Ensure compliance of rules and regulations with the Department of Transportation (DOT).
Identify, address, and ensure the proper maintenance of the vehicle is current and in good condition at all times.

Actively participate in required training and meetings.
Report all suspected cases of child abuse to Site Director and/or the Department of Children and Family and Family Services.
Discuss unacceptable children behavior with the Site Director prior to reporting it to parents, particularly if behavior indicates a child is not adjusting to the transportation.
