The School of Education ( SOE ) at Loyola University Chicago invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position at the assistant/associate professor rank who will have primary teaching, research and service responsibilities in the Higher Education programs. This individual will join the faculty in the SOE’s Higher Education program area, which runs Loyola’s Master’s in Higher Education and Student Affairs, Master’s in International Higher Education, PhD in Higher Education, new EdD in Higher Education, and a certificate in Curriculum & Pedagogy.

The selected individual will teach graduate courses in higher education and student affairs at the master’s or doctoral level. Further, successful candidates will have the opportunity to lead and teach in Loyola Chicago’s new executive doctorate program beginning in Fall 2022. Candidates should demonstrate a sustained record and strong commitment to social justice and equity in their research, teaching, and service consistent with Loyola’s commitment to advancing social justice through transformative education. We seek candidates who will demonstrate a commitment to collegiality and collaboration within the Higher Education programs, the larger SOE , and University community.

The primary responsibilities include:

+ Conducting research and involving students as learners and partners in the process that contributes to knowledge and advances equitable educational practices.

+ Teaching a variety of courses such as student development theory, multiculturalism, assessment and evaluation in higher education, introduction to higher education, introduction to students affairs, and/or courses taught from critical or equity-based paradigms. Additionally, some courses are taught as a combination of master’s and doctoral students while other courses may be only for specific degree-related cohorts of students. Courses in the program are offered in various modalities which include in-person, hybrid, online, and weekend intensive formats. Most in-person courses are taught at Loyola University Chicago’s Water Tower or Lakeshore campuses. The Higher Education program also runs an annual Study Abroad program in Rome, Italy at Loyola’s John Felice Rome Center.

+ Developing courses that serve as electives for current master’s and doctoral students with a focus on critical scholarship or equity-based paradigms

+ Fulfilling services requirements including advising graduate students in the program, chairing or serving on dissertation committees, serving as readers for comprehensive exams. Candidates will also be expected to serve on SOE and university-wide committees.

+ Contributing to knowledge through research and engagement with professional associations connected to higher education and/or student affairs

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

+ Earned doctorate in Higher Education and Student Affairs or other related fields

+ 3+ years of experience in higher education and student affairs or related industries

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Engagement in higher education and/or student affairs related professional associations

+ Experience involving graduate students in research

+ Record of securing extramural funding to support research

+ Graduate program or curriculum development
