Job Description

Position Summary:

The Mental Health Manager (licensed or certified mental health professional) is responsible for providing early childhood mental health consultation services to staff, children, and families.

Education & Certification Requirements:

• Registered, licensed, or certified mental health professional.
• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of related work experience in mental health or similar experience;
preferably in an early childhood environment.

Experience & Training Requirements:

  • Demonstrated understanding of early childhood mental health.
    • Experience formulating and writing assessments and support plans.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Must have excellent oral and written skills in English.
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
    • Ability to use Office 365 suite.
    • Must be able to serve as an advocate for children and families.

Essential Job Requirements & Duties:

• Conduct individual child/classroom observations and review feedback with parents, teaching and leadership teams.
• Create supportive, inclusive improvement plans based on individual child or classroom observations.
• Provide trainings/workshops for families and co-workers on emotional wellness topics.
• Act as a resource for families and co-workers on mental health topics, including but not limited to appropriate developmental guidance, early detection/identification of special needs in young children, definition of mental wellness, and stages of learning, teaching, and embedding opportunities for social-emotional skill development.
• Support children with an IFSP or IEP; attend meetings, review plans with teaching teams, support staff and parents.
• Share strategies to support the plan and adapt the environment when necessary to accommodate children’s needs.
• Meet with families to consult on child and family needs and create plans to support those needs.
• Provide child and family referrals to community services.
• Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with families, service providers and internal CCA staff.
• Complete documentation and reporting requirements per funder expectations including on-going monitoring, tracking, follow-up and analysis of child services and outcomes within specified timelines.
• Attend quarterly Health Services Advisory meetings to provide expertise and consultation in the development and enhancement of the mental health component of the program.
• Plan and assistance with mental health related crisis and concerns (i.e., community violence, family loss) that may arise during the year.
• Supports teaching staff to utilize training in appropriate classroom management and positive behavior guidance.
• Coordinate’s training opportunities for Head Start staff in the area of Mental Health including screening and assessment techniques, classroom interventions, etc.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
