Summary: The Maintenance Supervisor works in cooperation with plant supervision, maintenance planners and managers to meet the safety, maintenance and equipment goals of facilities. This position plans, organizes, coordinates and monitors the performance, safety, training and work activities of maintenance personnel. Routinely inspects plant equipment for operational integrity. Initiates work, or work orders, required to maintain equipment in proper operating condition. The Maintenance Supervisor is directly responsible to the Superintendent of Maintenance.

Essential Job Functions: Include but are not limited to the following:

+ Site Safety – Ensures that high standards of safety are developed, met, and maintained.

+ Arranges and coordinates regular safety inspections within area of responsibility. Follows up on any deficiencies or recommendations.

+ Conducts safety meetings and places emphasis on areas in need of attention.

+ Deals with infractions in a manner that will prompt change and heighten awareness.

+ Site Maintenance – Validates assigned facilities and grounds are maintained in accordance with relevant regulations, standards, and fiscal consideration.

+ Develops, implements, and reviews regularly, plant specific maintenance logs for each assigned facility.

+ Conducts monthly/quarterly maintenance inspections of each facility with immediate supervisor and/or manger. Provides a summary of maintenance recommendations.

+ Evaluates long-term needs in relation to major projects and property improvements and develops a long-term plan.

+ Supervises the completion of corrective and preventative maintenance in accordance with operating procedures, practices, and financial considerations.

+ Equipment Maintenance – The Maintenance Supervisor ensures that equipment is maintained in safe, operable condition and/or arranges for repair/replacement.

+ Develops, implements, and reviews equipment records (included in Maintenance Logs).

+ Establishes procedures and contacts to ensure timely repairs/replacement of equipment in a manner that minimizes interruption to production goals.

+ Makes recommendations for purchase of new equipment when repair is not cost effective or in line with long-term goals.

+ Safety and Maintenance Training – Arranges for or provides training for personnel as it relates to the safety and maintenance needs. Further, attends training programs relevant to the duties and responsibilities of this position.

+ Provides staff training in a variety of safety and maintenance topics including the effective utilization of the maintenance logs, completion of routine maintenance specific to the facility, equipment operations, fire safety training, and so forth.

+ Attends and participates in training opportunities and seminars relevant to this position.


Education and/or Experience:

+ BS or AS Degree in a technical discipline and/or equivalent experience to effectively supervise the activities of mechanical and/or electrical trades associated to a heavy industrial application.

+ Added factors include experience in estimating maintenance and repair costs and hands on application in both electrical and mechanical trades.
