Engineering Technician

Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a candidate to fill a full time Structural Engineering Technician position in our Springfield, Illinois office. Other locations will be considered depending on qualifications of the candidate. This is a Government Market position.

Position Profile:

Provides support for projects involving, but not limited to building structures. This position requires thorough knowledge and accurate use of structural drafting techniques, computer operations, and structural engineering practices. This position recommends and implements design changes to resolve field problems and may require field verification work. Maintain technical knowledge with regards to computers, software, and design techniques learn and adapt to new programs and adjust to changes in product and client demands. Execute and adhere to quality assurance requirements.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

+ Develop plans and related documents from architectural and engineering input; perform mathematical calculations and 3D modeling; and prepare, quantities, details, and other related requirements as part of the overall bidding/construction documents package.

+ Perform calculations and provide engineering solutions to complex problems with oversight from a professional engineer or supervisor/manager.

+ Adhere to project deadlines and keep supervising staff informed of any difficulties encountered on assignments.

+ Investigate field conditions and read and comprehend as-built drawings, construction specifications, client base standards and technical information to develop drawings.

+ Coordinate with project engineers, team members and others to understand, develop, and deliver drawings.

+ Execute and adhere to quality assurance and project documentation requirements.

+ Other duties as assigned

Technical Skills:

+ Demonstrated training and/or experience (preferred) with Revit, AutoCAD, MicroStation and other related design software applications as required for plan production.

Soft Skills:

+ Must be able to build effective relationships with internal and external client bases.

+ Must be able to develop to work independently and as a team member to problem solve and learn new technical skills.

+ Interest in experiencing a variety of assignments is important.

+ Must also be self-motivated, friendly, positive, accurate, and pay strict attention to detail and direction.

Education/Experience:

+ Associate in Computer Aid Drafting and Design (CADD) or Civil Engineering Associate commensurate related technical program preferred, but not required. Alternate training and experience will be considered in lieu of an Associate Degree.

+ On-the-job or classroom experience with development structural construction documents is preferred or show interest towards new assignments technical skills.

+ Minimum of 3-5 years of Revit experience preferred or entry level with an Associate’s Degree.

+ Must be willing to accept periodic out-of-town travel assignments.

+ Must be willing and able to work overtime to meet project demands and deadlines.

+ Must be willing to work as a team member in a fast and productive paced work environment.
