Job Title: Senior Manager, Software Engineering
Location: Hoffman Estates, Illinois
Duties: Lead engineering teams across a functionally related group of technologies, and manage the innovation, delivery schedules and personnel across these related platforms. Lead the creation, improvement and operations of technical services and products. Lead the design of cross-functional features or is otherwise influential in the efforts of other leaders. Advocate for efficient and effective solutions in any and all teams. Manage a function or project that adds value to the business (i.e. increased revenue or reduced costs) or manage multiple functional areas. Perform trade-off/rationalization analysis for delivery schedules and resource management across functional areas of responsibility. Lead the design of new applications and technology or is otherwise influential in the design efforts of other leaders through collaboration and participation in the discovery, documentation and validation designs before and during software development. Keep abreast of new technology patterns and trends. Lead the evolution of corporate standards and technology (tools, conventions and design patterns). Manage end-to-end development of software and solutions for ecommerce applications and related technologies. Ensure successful delivery of solutions, meets specifications, and creates little to no operational support overhead (for this team or others). Collaborate with other managers and consistently and effectively communicates across the organization and up the leadership chain. Lead design and/or code reviews. Drive initiatives for operational improvement and ensures team members do the same. Establish and monitor metrics of technical and business importance that are generated within assigned system and/or functional area. Mentor Manager, Software Engineering and individual contributors. Perform supervisory functions, including but not limited to, making employment decisions regarding hiring, promoting, demoting and terminating, conducting performance appraisals and coaching and developing associates.
Education & Experience Requirements:
Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology or a related field plus three (3) years of experience analyzing, designing and coding large scale Java/J2EE applications.
Or, alternatively:
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology or a related field plus five (5) years of experience analyzing, designing and coding large scale Java/J2EE applications.
Required Skills:
(1) Demonstrated Expertise (DE) analyzing, designing, and developing high volume applications and solutions using Spring 5.x, SOAP/Rest Microservices, Redis, MySQL, and JBoss for online retail applications;
(2) DE analyzing, trouble-shooting, and recovery of highly available and high-volume ecommerce retail and loyalty applications using Unix, Graphite, Grafana and open source technologies;
(3) DE in database design and development within Oracle, MySQL, and NoSQL technologies;
(4) DE using Kafka, Storm and Zookeeper implementation for messaging and asynchronous operations in a large cluster environment; and,
(5) DE designing and deploying large-scale systems in Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud using CodePipeline, S3, EC2, ECS, and API Gateway with cost optimization.
