The Opportunity

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

- The responsibilities for this position include full-time field assignments on Black & Veatch construction projects as project demand dictates. Field Assignments typically last 6-18 months depending on project needs, but length of assignment(s) may vary. Field assignment may not occur immediately upon employment but based on project scheduling. The first field assignment will be near Vedalia, Georgia and will continue for approximately 24 months. Future assignments may be anywhere in the US.

- Work as part a team of professionals to support our clients in achieving environmental compliance through every phase in the lifecycle of a project; from proposal to design to construction to closeout.

Our Environmental team is a multidisciplinary team of ecologists, engineers, scientists, project managers, and attorneys working together to identify optimum environmental solutions for our clients. We have provided environmental consulting services in support of projects for over 40 years including a diverse and growing mix of infrastructure projects such as power generation (conventional and renewable) and transmission, oil and gas facilities and pipelines, water and wastewater treatment facilities, data centers, and food and beverage industries. As a full-service environmental consulting practice, services include impact assessment and planning, regulatory compliance and permitting, wetland and floodplain analysis, waterbody and water quality assessment, air quality permitting and management, environmental remediation, site due diligence, environmental noise assessment, pollution prevention planning, and climate action solutions.

Key Responsibilities

The Lead Environmental Compliance Specialist will be an integral part of a client-focused team to deliver solutions to meet client’s needs by:

- Implementing and managing the overall environmental compliance efforts to maintain compliance with the plans, permits, regulations, etc. applicable to the project.

- Providing environmental awareness training to crews.

- Implementing the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan, including conducting all required inspections, providing recommendations/direction on corrective actions, and maintaining required documentation.

- Communicating environmental requirements effectively to team members so that everyone understands their role as it relates to environmental compliance.

- Working with the project team to identify construction needs and work to develop solutions to avoid, minimize, and/or mitigate environmental impacts.

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, environmental engineering, or sciences preferred. Other degrees, specialized training, or experience that uniquely qualifies the individual to perform the job responsibilities may also be considered.

- 5+ years of experience consulting with proposal, design, and construction teams on infrastructure or industrial projects.

- Knowledge of federal, state and local permitting related to wetlands, wildlife, cultural resources, spill reporting, construction, transportation, and others.

- Knowledge of stormwater regulations (related to NPDES and state-level programs), stormwater pollution prevention plans, erosion and sediment control plans, and stormwater best management practices.

- Experience with on-site environmental compliance on construction projects.

- Ability to explain complex permitting or technical requirements in an easy to comprehend manner.

- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing stormwater and environmental compliance training programs for engineers and construction field professionals.

- Experience in Georgia a plus.

Minimum Qualifications

A minimum total of 5 years of related work experience is typically necessary to move into this level. Graduate work may count as related work experience if directly applicable to job function. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Certifications

- Relevant industry certifications related to construction stormwater and environmental compliance.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Typical construction environment, extreme weather conditions, high noise level, safety hazards (electric currents, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to chemicals), atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation). Sitting, walking, talking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, driving, filing, reaching, stooping, crouching, bending, standing for extended periods of time, lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
