Illinois Residency Requirement: This position requires Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date.

The Safety Compliance Officer supports the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager with developing, organizing, directing, and participating in meetings, conferences, seminars, training, compliance programs and committees. The successful candidate will also perform the following duties to include but not limited to:

  • Provides consultation in area of expertise to faculty and staff of university as necessary regarding compliance programs, new or revised policies, standards or regulations.
  • Assists the EHS Manager in communication and/or dissemination of information on programs, policies, standards or regulations develops, prepares, and/or approves training materials or communications related to compliance and safety training;
  • Coordinates active efforts and plans to identify, isolate, or eliminate hazardous operations, materials, or processes coordinate and/or participate in responses to spills of hazardous materials;
  • In the event of a crisis serves as a member of the Emergency Response Team;
  • Implement, maintain, and update plans and procedures pertaining to EHS response;
  • Participates in mandated drills and investigations;
  • Assists in the investigation, response and/or reporting of complaints, injuries, and incidents
  • Coordinates with and provides information to outside local, state, and federal regulatory agencies as authorized by university-level compliance authority;
  • Updates university EHS records to reflect mitigation results of incidents;
  • Provides office administration with appropriate information for training, waste removal, and services that are charged to individual departments or programs.

Further duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
