Duties and Responsibilities 
 Reporting to the Director of Learning and Academic Success, the Assistant Director will oversee the university's Success Coaching program and support the development and implementation of learning and academic success initiatives. The Assistant Director will:


Success Coaching Program: 

Design, develop, and support the Success Coaching program using the philosophy of Appreciative Advising, including but not limited to:
Recruit, train, and supervise Success Coaches (graduate students)
Establish and implement best practices for meeting one-on-one with students in a Success Coaching appointment
Lead Success Coaches in the design, delivery, and facilitation of Success Strategies workshops
Develop workshop materials, one-on-one coaching materials, and other resources for the Success Coaching program
Coordinate the Success Coaching program's assessment efforts
As needed, provide one-on-one consultations with students to improve study skills and motivation, address cognitive and non-cognitive success factors, and refer students to appropriate campus resources, while maintaining student records for all success coaching activities and interventions
Provide Success Coaching support for Student Accessibility Center, Student-Athlete Academic Services, and students on academic probation

 

Rambler Success Program: 

In collaboration with the office of First and Second Year Advising, provide oversight of the Rambler Success Program, an academic support program for first-year students. This Assistant Director will provide leadership and facilitation of all programmatic areas of the Rambler Success Program and course-specific support activities, including but not limited to:
program assessment;
curriculum development and instruction;
budget oversight;
recruitment, hiring, and training of peer leaders, graduate assistant, and faculty/instructors;
management of special events;
coordination of academic and transition supports and resources; and
direct student outreach in response to academic alerts


Learning and Academic Success: 
Coordinate the UNIV 112/UNIV 114: Strategies for Learning course which includes recruitment, hiring, and training of instructors, updating curriculum and course materials, promotion of class to students and advisors, and other duties pertaining to these courses
In collaboration with the Director, coordinate academic success initiatives and outreach, including but not limited to the Academic Concerns Referral program and grade alert initiatives
Teach one or more sections of UNIV 112/UNIV 114 each semester; teach sections of UNIV 101/201, as needed
Support placement testing operations for foreign language, math, and writing
Respond to incoming messages to shared mailboxes for Learning and Academic Success and Placement Testing.
Collaborate with the Tutoring Center team to establish program learning outcomes, assessment plans, and a strategic plan for the program, as well as the broader Tutoring Center
Provide content for and support of the Learning and Academic Success websites and social media communication
Participate in Student Academic Services signature programs, events and activities, including but not limited to: Orientation, New Student Convocation, finals week proctoring, Undergraduate Admission Open Houses, and student celebrations
Perform related duties as assigned
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience 
 Master's Degree in higher education or related field and knowledge of learning and tutoring theory. Three years' experience.
Qualifications 
 Solid understanding of learning theory and academic support strategies and services.
Experience developing and implementing student programming at the post-secondary level required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to competently assess students' needs and provide appropriate learning assistance.
