About the role:
Join Takeda as a Director, Medical Strategic Alliances where you will be a member of assigned US therapeutic area (TA) medical units and new product planning teams. You will be responsible for developing and implementing the associated medical and scientific engagement strategies and implementation plans with prioritized external organizations. As part of the US Medical team, you will report to the Head, US Medical External Affairs. This is a remote role.
How you will contribute:
· Strategic Plans : Initiate and lead strategic development of TA medical engagement strategy and tactics, aligned with public affairs patient and policy engagement plans, co-created and endorsed by the medical unit strategy team and leadership.
· Relationship / Program Management: Identify, create and sustain medical relationships with prioritized external organizations ( societies, trade organizations, quality, public health etc.). Use knowledge and insights of healthcare trends, TA science and clinical landscape to help shape the external medical environment through strategic external engagement and partnerships with prioritized stakeholders.
· Evaluation & Insight Sharing: Define and measure US scientific and medical organizational TA engagement and its impact. Partner with medical unit, scientific communications, corporate communications, public affairs and other internal stakeholders to communicate and share partnership updates and insights across Takeda and externally.
Medical External Organization Engagement
· Partner with TA medical unit and other USM Functions, Health Equity & Patient Affairs, Public Affairs, R&D, to understand unmet scientific, clinical and health policy innovation needs
· Lead external landscape assessments within assigned TA, often in partnership with key stakeholders including public affairs, to inform medical strategy and organization engagement plans
· Anticipate trends in the external environment that may impact Takeda and delivers engagement plans with prioritized external organizations that strengthen medical relationships with key healthcare quality, research trade, population health, professional societies, patient organizations and other decision makers
· Raise cross-TA and enterprise opportunities and influences decisions to advance where relevant
· Cultivate key external organization relationships, identifies and influences partnership opportunities and ensures internal alignment and coordination of Takeda SME engagement with these external stakeholders
· Corporate Memberships- As part of the overall engagement plan, lead, develop and gain alignment of yearly TA corporate memberships. Partner with medical unit leadership and cross functional partners to ensure clear points of contacts with each organization and coordination of engagement. Work with operational team who facilitates review committee meetings, tracks and ensure corporate membership benefits are met. Share relevant opportunities, insights and project related partnership updates with cross-functional partners.
Foster Transparent Communication; Build Relationship Among Key Stakeholders
· Understand the US BU stakeholder map and create meaningful and constructive relationships to further team awareness and effective internal collaboration
· Identify areas of opportunity and collaboration across functional areas and business units within the organization ( i.e., Leadership team, Medical Unit TA teams, Value & Evidence Generation, Medical Communications, Public Affairs, Global Medical, New Product Planning, Franchise and Brand leadership, Health Equity and Patient Affairs, Corporate Communications, etc.) and influences implementation of such ideas
· Collaborate with legal, ethics and compliance colleagues and ensure all activities are conducted in a compliant manner with Takeda policies, procedures, and local regulatory/legal requirements
· Partner with Public Affairs TA Policy and Advocacy leads to ensure aligned medical and advocacy plans and a coordinated approach to engagement with prioritized organizations
· Identify opportunities and influences decisions to showcase Takeda thought leadership and medical partnerships. Partner with medical leadership, medical and corporate communications, legal and compliance for external communications
· Direct consultants or vendors on project related work
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
Education
· Bachelor’s degree required
· Pharm D, MD, PhD, M.P.H., M.S., or equivalent education or working experience preferred
· Area of Specialization: Healthcare Innovation, Clinical Research, Heath Communications, Health Outcomes, Pharmacoeconomic, Health Policy, Health Services Research & Implementation Science, Public Health
Knowledge & Experience
· 10 years experience in healthcare industry
· 5-7 years experience in medical affairs, research and development, patient and stakeholder engagement, advocacy or related experience in the pharmaceutical industry or relevant experience at a non-profit, medical society, academic medical center, etc.
· Strong communication, relationship building and strategic skills; demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for medical engagement and develop a set of strategic medical engagement goals.
· Strong analytical skills, able to clearly interpret and distill scientific, clinical and commercial information
· Experience operating in a highly dynamic, changing environment.
· Ability to maintain a command of a large amount of scientific information across multiple therapeutic areas and show effective written/verbal communication skills
Additional Information:
· Willingness to travel to various meetings or partner sites, including overnight trips. Some international travel may be required.
· Requires approximately 10-30% travel.

Base Salary Range : $160,300 to $229,000, based on candidate professional experience level. Employees may also be eligible for Short-term and Long-Term Incentive benefits as well.
