Job Description
Chapman and Cutler LLP is seeking a motivated Accounts Receivable Clerk to join our Financial Management Department in the Firm’s Chicago office. The Accounts Receivable Clerk is responsible for the daily processing and posting of client accounts receivables and Firm related expenses, including checks, wire transfers, and ACH transfers. The Accounts Receivable Clerk also processes and posts client retainers and transfers trust payments related to client bills. The position requires an in-office presence but includes flexibility for some remote work.
The day-to-day responsibilities of the Accounts Receivable Clerk include:
- Records, deposits, and posts daily cash receipts to the time and billing system
- Reconciles deposits, including bank lockbox, manual deposits, ACH and wire transfers, and resolves any discrepancies
- Researches unidentified cash through discussion with attorneys and billing coordinators
- Writes off outstanding time and costs at the direction of the attorneys in coordination with the billing team
- Responds to requests for accounts receivable statements and client payment instruction forms
- Assists billing team with transfer of funds, application of credits, and reversal of application of funds
- Other clerical duties as assigned, including maintaining files
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have at least two (2) years of Accounting experience in a professional environment; preference given to those with prior law firm experience.
- High School degree required; Associate’s in Accounting or a related field strongly preferred
- Law firm experience preferred
- Comfortable working with numbers and math
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and communication skills
- Professional demeanor
- Experience and comfort working in a team environment
- Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints
- Reports to the office in a reliable and punctual manner
- Committed to following all Firm policies and information security protocols
