Job Description


Under direct supervision, performs a variety of quality engineering work involving the continued development or maintenance of the company's quality system, standards, or procedures. Works and coordinates with customers, suppliers, or other departments within the company to assure the quality of products or services.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

Assists in the development or revision of quality assurance, quality control, or inspection manuals to assure continued compliance with quality requirements including document control processes.
Develops and documents detailed procedures for the control of purchased or manufactured products.
Develops quality plans, for new or existing commercial products and warehousing operations, aimed at the assurance of product quality. Consults will customers, suppliers, or other disciplines within the company, and requests participation of other disciplines as necessary to develop the quality plans.
Plans and collects data on capability studies, control charts or other statistical methods, and analyzes results.
Analyzes statistical data from capability studies or other quality techniques and confers with product or applied engineering or manufacturing engineering or manufacturing management to institute changes or to recommend improvements as necessary.
Works toward the resolution of the customers complaints or problems; analyzes customers complaints or returned materials and initiates corrective actions.
Initiates and follows up on audits regarding commercial activities or corrective actions to remedy any non-conformance.
Reviews, as required, quality assurance specifications in customers purchase orders, or related documents to determine the ability of the company to meet their requirements and, as applicable, invokes steps or procedures to assure compliance.
Collects, analyzes and presents quality trends data aiming at the control and reduction of quality costs.
Inform quality management team regarding customer feedback and expectations on product's quality.
Prepare and update all necessary quality reports as required by customers.
Coordinate with Quality Manager to discuss and resolve product quality issues raised by customers.
Update customers in a timely fashion regarding the status of quality issues or any requests.
Additional duties as assigned.

EHS Requirements:
Complete all work in a safe manner and follow all safety requirements consistent with supporting the Company's goals.
Lifting guidelines in accordance with the Manual Lifting Guidelines noted in the Safety Handbook.
Follow all environmental requirements consistent with supporting the company's environmental performance goals.
Complete, and actively participate in all other EHS training requirements
Position Requirements:
A college degree in engineering or equivalent education and experience is preferred but not required.
2 to 5 years' experience in quality assurance/control as a Quality Engineer preferred.
Statistical analysis experience required
Six Sigma Experience preferred
Root cause analysis experience required.
Document control experience preferred
Physical/Mental Requirements:
Must be able to sit for extend periods of time; a minimum of 2 hours.
Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the office, shop, warehouse, or manufacturing plant
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and carry up to 10 pounds.
Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items while working at assigned desk area.
Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment.
Must be able to simultaneously manage several objectives, changing priorities and reassign priorities to complete assignments.
Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
Work Environment:
Work environment is typically considered within a Smiths location during normal or extended business hours to include offices, manufacturing plants and repair facilities. Work environment may also include customer sites including oil well sites, and meeting venues.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and approved PPE is required when on the factory floor
