Job Description
Directs and manages the research and quality improvement (QI) operations, internal and external grant funding, research education, and regulatory compliance of the Nephrology Research Program. Progressively and proactively develops, plans, and builds the team's capacity to provide excellent QI and research support to Nephrology clinical research operations and strategic decision making. In addition, the research scientist will oversee and implement Nephrology QI and research projects, participating fully in the design, analysis, and presentation of the findings and supervising staff.

Job Responsibilities:

Provide key leadership in directing and managing the scientific, administrative, and fiscal aspects of the nephrology clinical research and quality improvement program; oversee all research and QI projects.

Serve as an advisor to other hospital research programs regarding programmatic infrastructure building for nephrology-related clinical research and QI programs.

Maintains knowledge of relevant scientific literature and technical resources to provide consultative, educational, technical and informational services as needed to staff and faculty.

Collaborate with all nephrology and transplant clinicians, guiding research and QI design, database development and staff recruitment decisions.

Supervise research and QI staff for nephrology, mentor and train medical students, residents, and fellows.

Develop studies in partnership with clinician investigators; direct the design of research and QI projects, creation of data collection and data entry systems.

Analyze quantitative and qualitative data, write research and QI protocols, abstracts, presentations, manuscripts, and grants.

Builds scientific knowledge by reading relevant articles and attending seminars.

Perform resident and fellow teaching at didactic conferences in reference to QI and research.

Present findings in a wide range of academic, hospital, partner, and community venues, as appropriate.

Help identify and pursue grant opportunities that may be used to expand the capacity of the research team.

Manage all internal and external grant funding related to clinical research and QI.

Assure compliance with all regulations regarding the use and release of data (HIPAA and IRB).

Other job functions as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Master's degree in public health or related field, Ph.D. preferred.

Seven (7) plus years of experience with a wide range of research methodologies, statistical procedures, and progressively more complex analytic methodologies.

Four (4) plus years of experience working with complex data systems, either administrative data or data collected for research or public health purposes.

Demonstrated effective leadership capabilities.

Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills. Ability to display complex data analyses in an easy-to-understand manner.

Ability to facilitate complex conversations with multiple stakeholders to define and carry out analytic projects effectively.
