Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Oversee andmanage the planning, organizing and productivity projects from conceptual stagesthrough production cycles. Investigate current operations practices and scope,develop and implement changes that will improve operational productivity. Modifyexisting product designs, improve production techniques and develop testprocedures.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Managecomplex assignments to develop new and/or enhanced operating procedures,troubleshoot technical issues and minimize impact to daily operations.
  • Drivenew process and procedure development and/or enhancements of existing processesand procedures. Partner with management to determine engineering feasibility,cost effectiveness and demand for new and existing products.
  • Partnerwith business leaders to identify opportunities, investigate practices, anddevelop and implement process improvements that will improve operationalproductivity.
  • Manageproject budgets, job estimates, and milestones to ensure goals and commitmentsare met in accordance with project plans. Analyze costs related to capitalexpenditures to determine breakeven points, payback and associated hard andsoft savings.
  • Conducttraining, when appropriate, on engineering concepts and tools, including butnot limited to statistics, kaizen, six sigma, DMAIC, time studies, andobservations.
  • Providesubject matter expertise on content, process, and procedures, possibly atmultiple locations. May have international responsibilities as business needrequires.
  • Responsiblefor the integration of systems and processes including workflow design,functional requirements, test plans, and production issues.
  • Forecastoperating costs of department and complete preparation of budget requests.
  • Managementresponsibilities include:
    • Typicallyoversees professional employees/teams OR typically manages non-professionalemployees through Supervisors in manufacturing, distribution or officeenvironments
    • Day-to-dayoperations of a group of employees.
    • Mayhave limited budgetary responsibility and usually contributes to budgetaryimpact;
    • Interpretand execute policies for departments/projects and develops.
    • Recommendand implement new policies or modifications to existing policies.
    • Providegeneral guidelines and parameters for staff functioning.
    • Hiringstaff, recommending pay increases, performing performance reviews, training anddevelopment of staff, estimating personnel needs, assigning work, meetingcompletion dates, interpreting and ensuring consistent application oforganizational policies.



Education

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline.

Work Experience

  • At least 5 years of engineering experience demonstrating technical writing, research paper writing, and/or experimental design experience.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and/or distribution of goods.
  • ERP systems knowledge and experience.
  • Requires being open to change (positive or negative) and to considerable variety in the workplace.
  • Requires creativity and alternative thinking to develop new ideas for and answers to work-related problems.
  • Requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
