Position Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced Child Life Specialist for our Department of Pediatrics located at Evanston Hospital in Evanston, IL. This resource position will have the opportunity to work approximately 28 hours a week and the opportunity to float across our other hospital sites as well (Highland Park, Glenbrook, Skokie, and Swedish). Hours will be scheduled on the day shift, Monday through Friday between 7am and 5pm. This position will include helping provide additional coverage to the team during a maternity leave as well. This is a non-benefits eligible position.
Position: Child Life Services Specialist
Location: Evanston Hospital
Full Time/Part Time: Per diem, as needed by department
Hours: Resource position, Monday- Friday rotating hours between 7AM-5PM
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Provide psychosocial support to children and families during hospitalization, surgeries and/or out-patient visits
Promote effective coping and reduce trauma experienced throughout hospitalizations by providing developmentally appropriate play, preparation, education, and therapeutic self-expression activities
Provide emotional support for families and encourage optimum development for children facing a broad range of challenging experiences, especially those related to healthcare and hospitalization
Lends expertise and knowledge of child growth and development to the healthcare team, adjusts interaction and/or treatment to match each patients developmental, educational and other related needs
Assess patients/families' psychosocial and developmental needs within the context of their adjustment to the healthcare setting
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate will have:
*Completion of a bachelor's degree, with knowledge of child and adolescent developmentally typically acquired through the completion of a baccalaureate degree in child development, child and family development, or related field of study
*Requires CCLS (certified child life specialist) credential from the Association of Child Life Professionals
*Minimum of 1 year of experience in child life setting or equivalent position
*Bachelor's Degree (Required)
