Job Description

ITW Construction provides a variety of fastening systems and truss products for the commercial, residential, and remodeling/renovation segments. With products manufactured at locations around the globe serving markets in North America, Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Australia, the Global Tool Unit (GTU) is a part of ITW’s Construction Segment. The GTU innovates, develops, and manufactures through our Customer Back Innovation process best-in-class Power Fastening Systems for the global construction market. Our highly differentiated tools are specified to be used in a variety of applications including wood framing, wood trim, and steel to concrete installations. Tools, and related fasteners, account for a significant portion of total segment revenues

Position Summary

The Modeling & Simulation Engineer will be responsible for creating models, simulations of systems or sub-systems that will correlate with physical models to develop designs predictability and speed up Time to Market. The M&S Engineer will be participating into Technology and NPD projects dedicated to the development of cordless and pneumatic power fastening tools primarily used for wood and concrete applications.

Responsibilities

+ Define simulation, experimental project requirements and objectives, generate statements of work, define timelines, and ensure on-time completion of projects.

+ Research all relevant marketing specifications and data to understand end-users’ usages and translate them into technical requirements

+ Develop large models of complex systems involving multiple physics to serve as virtual prototypes in support of all phases of innovation or product development, from early-stage research, exploratory concept development and confirmation through prototype or bench testing

+ Participate in design reviews, defining DFMEA, DVP&R and the analysis of the internal and external test results

+ Develop domain expertise and share knowledge with peers and the engineering community through technical reports

+ Develop analytical methods to advance the use of leading-edge CAE tools in product design and development.

+ Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Computational Mechanics/Engineering or Physics

+ 5+ years’ experience in system modeling – coupling of fluid, thermal, and structural analyses (MathWorks MATLAB-Simulink, AMESIM, CFD/FEAANSYS or other)

+ CAD Design/Modeling tools (CREO preferred)

+ Experience with the design, analysis and testing of components or sub-systems (e.g., internal combustion engine, shocks and vibrations stressed systems, injectors, fuels etc.) including conceptual design, testing, validation

+ Exposure to data acquisition systems like LabView, High Speed Cam, etc.

+ Demonstrated design capability, problem solving skills and the ability to understand and troubleshoot electro-mechanical equipment using Root Cause Analysis tools (A3, 5W, DOE, etc.)

+ Teamwork, motivation for multi-disciplined projects

+ Exposure to project management

+ Domestic and international travel: 5-10%
