Job Description
Characteristics of the Job
Under general supervision, performs manual semi-skilled or skilled work in repair & maintenance of city buildings & mechanical systems & in the operation of trucks & motorized equipment. The employee has the flexibility to develop work sequences & methods within the scope of established policies. Considerable independence is exercised & work is checked by the supervisor for quality, quantity, & safety of operation & care of equipment.
Examples of Duties
Operate equipment, such as loader, backhoe scissor lift, mini-excavator, etc.
Coordinate and assist with the work assignments of the Laborer – Facility Maintenance.
Operate, service, & repair mechanical equipment & systems such as electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, ventilating, doors & overhead door systems, automatic gates, etc.
Inspect existing heating, cooling, & mechanical systems in all City facilities for conformance with safety & other operative requirements.
Instruct assigned employees on proper equipment operation & repair work.
Make repairs to City infrastructure and facilities & determine material lists for remodeling projects.
Maintain program for buildings & related equipment upkeep including inventories of supplies, repair history, construction costs, inventory of equipment, & development & implementation of preventative maintenance schedules
Instruct, inspect, & assist outside contractors.
Operate truck for snow removal & material hauling.
Perform other semi-skilled and skilled work, such as carpentry, masonry, & painting.
Perform minor service & repairs of equipment; report need for repairs.
Other duties may be assigned.
Residency Requirement
AFSCME employees shall live within a 20-mile radius from the City’s Emergency Center, located at 1630 8th Avenue in Moline, within 180 days of hire.
