Position Summary: This high level Metallurgical Engineering position is responsible for challenging technical issues related to forging, heat treating, quality assurance, product development and process improvement efforts. Development of forging value propositions with our customers to address their challenges and needs is a fundamental responsibility of this position. Job Duties and Responsibilities+ Work closely with cross functional team (Sales, Forge, Heat Treat, Vendors, etc.) to develop new customers, product types and/or market segments.
+ Collaborating with customer and sales team members on difficult technical jobs.
+ Develop, write, and ensure effective execution of manufacturing procedures including forging and heat treatment procedures.
+ Teaching office and shop employees’ metallurgical concepts and practices.
+ Develop and maintain raw material specifications.
+ Disposition of material (NDE) and mechanical test failure rejections.
+ Research and development projects for process improvement and product development.
+ Support raw material supplier development including auditing and quality issues.
+ Troubleshooting and problem solving utilizing a highly scientific approach while immersed in a high-energy environment with production (customer) demands.
+ Technical development and resource for Scot Forge metallurgical engineers.
+ Demonstrated ability to quickly learn relevant metallurgy topics.
+ Represent Scot Forge in industry organizations as requested (e.g., ASTM, AMS, AGMA, API, ABS, FIA)
Education/Experience:+ Master of Science in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering or Material Science with a significant proven track record will be considered.
+ Physical Metallurgy, Heat Treatment Principles, Mechanical Testing, Microstructural Interpretation, Failure Analysis, NDE, Industry and Customer Specifications.
+ Thorough understanding of physical metallurgy principles as they relate to metal working and heat treatment applications of at least one alloy group of high significance to Scot Forge (Steel, Aluminum, Nickel-Based Alloys, Titanium).
+ Understanding of issues experienced by our customers is extremely beneficial (corrosion, fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, surface modification, etc.)
+ Minimum of seven years of successful experience in Metallurgical Engineering desired.
Working Conditions:+ Office, Metallurgy Laboratory, and Manufacturing Shop Floor (Forge, Heat Treat) environments.
