Position Summary 
 To provide administrative support to the Director of Safety & Security and assist in the operational efficiency and effective deployment of personnel in the Department. Manage all part-time employees (officers, dispatchers, and student workers) and one full-time dispatcher.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities 
 * Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates all part-time employees within the department including student workers.
* Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates one full-time dispatcher.
* Ensures all newly hired employees are properly trained and obtain all certifications for hold the position they hold.
* Responsible for supervising and maintaining maximum efficiency and effectiveness from the personnel and equipment.
* Serves as a senior officer of the Department, and as such assumes direct accountability over all subordinate members of the Safety & Security Department in the absence of the Director.
* Works with shift supervisors to create, maintain and adjust employee time schedule for each shift, approves and denies benefit time, and ensures each campus and shift has the appropriate number of officers/dispatchers/student workers to service each campus as needed.
* In the absence of the Director, supervise patrol activities, criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, crime prevention, education and inspection activities.
* Administers all aspects of the ID system, including training, ordering supplies, and staffing during registration and orientation sessions.
* Administers all aspects of the parking ticket system, including charging fines through the Business Office and making decisions on parking ticket appeals.
* Obtain and maintain certification as a "First Responder" (first aid and CPR).
* Patrols assigned areas (University buildings, dormitories, parking lots) on foot or in a vehicle to ensure security, and to make presence known in a manner that contributes to the deterrence of security breaches.
* Provides escort services for visitors, students, staff, faculty, and individuals responsible for transportation of monies to or from University depositories as required.
* Watches for and reports irregularities, such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, missing signs, deficient parking lot surface conditions, and security doors left unlocked; sounds alarm in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
* Performs periodic checks of emergency call boxes and/or streetlights to ensure proper functioning; reports malfunctions as required.
* Examines doors, windows, and gates to determine if they are secure.
* Drives a University vehicle, providing safe and efficient transportation to the University community and visitors.
* Provides public assistance, including lockout services and information.
* Performs related work as required and assigned by the Director.
Minimum Requirements 
 * High school diploma or GED
* Three to five years progressively responsible experience in university safety & security, private security, law enforcement, or an equivalent combination thereof.
* Possess a valid Illinois driver's license
* Read, analyze and interpret instructions.
* Understand and adhere to all Safety and Security rules, regulations, policy and procedures, written memorandums, and verbal instructions issued by the Director.
* Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
* Apply firm and courteous instructions with the students, faculty, staff and administration of the University.
* Analyze situations quickly and objectively taking the appropriate course of action.
* Establish and maintain cordial and effective working relationships with the University community.
* Gather data, compile information and prepare reports.
* Work a varied work schedule and hours encompassing all shifts days, evenings and nights.
* Ability to use computer software programs to complete documentation of incidents etc.
* Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position
* Willingness to support the Catholic and Franciscan values of the university.
Preferred Requirements 
 * Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
Hours/Shift/Work Schedule 
 Hours are 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Periodic varied work schedules & 24-hour supervisory role in absence of Director of Safety & Security.
