The Opportunity

Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.

As the Senior Scientist Technical Support – Polymer Scientist , you’ll be responsible for independently perform analytical testing, analysis, and write reports to support complex, long-duration projects, product improvements and investigations for materials utilized in in-vitro diagnostics. Proactively identify opportunities for significant operational; process; or product improvements.

What You’ll Work On

+ Responsible for performing analytical testing and methods, considering Critical Quality Attribute (CQAs), critical process parameters, and analytical performance characteristics for polymeric materials.

+ Project Management – Independently design, manage, conduct, or support complex long duration projects, product improvements, and investigations for new and on-market products within ADD or at Third Party Manufacturers (TPM).

+ Product and Process Improvement – Independently manage complex long duration projects; product improvements; and investigations. Recognizes opportunities and proposes novel ideas for significant operational, process or product improvements. Perform or support test and process method modifications; considering CQAs; critical process parameters and analytical performance characteristics. Identify technical alternatives and make risk-based decisions within the area. Use technical data that interacts with multiple areas and processes. Provides diverse; independent technical data and insight to support risk management evaluation and assessment.

+ Design Control & Risk Management – Effectively balances compliance risk and business risk to create and review risk management files.

+ Complaint and Internal Investigations – Independently manages complex investigations to resolution.

+ Demonstrates advanced statistical techniques; Design of Experiments (DoE), ANOVA, Statistical Process Controls (SPC), and or project management tools. Provides audit inputs and support as required.

+ Technical Support – Assist in resolution of multiple complex technical and quality issues across ADD Sites; TPMs and or functions (instrument, reagents, software, and commodities). Anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues.

+ Maintains detailed knowledge and understanding of product or process design.

+ Receives infrequent direction and provides work directions for other technical personnel.

+ Sharing Knowledge – Presents complex technical information to internal and external groups. Shares scientific information and expertise with customers and regulatory agencies. Experience mentoring and teaching others to facilitate timely resolution of product and process technical issues.

+ Strategic and Results Orientation – Demonstrates fiscal responsibility through actionable recommendations and accomplishments. Translates top-level goals to specific goals and aligns activities with respective strategic business priorities.

Required Qualifications

+ Higher Certificate: Ordinary or Honors Bachelor’s degree in scientific and technical field is desired or relevant combination of education and experience.

+ 4 years’ related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree in biological or physical sciences, or mathematics and 7 years of progressively responsible positions in a research development environment

+ PhD with 0 years of experience or Master’s degree with 2 years of experience

+ Advanced degree preferred in Materials Science and/or Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Science and/or Polymer Engineering. (Advanced degree(s) may offset required years of experience)

+ Execution of practical lab skills with increasing complexity of knowledge with experience. Demonstrates knowledge of science and the ability to apply more complex and advanced principles and techniques with experience. Expert technical communication level (able to explain and teach) experimental approaches/protocols and scientific methods such as designing experiments and interpreting data.

+ 5+ years of industrial experience in technical support and characterization of materials and or molded parts (Medical, Pharmaceutical, or Aerospace desired)

+ Demonstrated experience working independently to investigate polymer properties, surfaces, and composition

+ Demonstrated experience with structured root cause analysis (six sigma, fault tree analysis, 5 Whys) and solution implementation

+ Work well in a team environment

+ Great understanding of technical and scientific principles governing polymer characterization methods

+ Must be able to design experiments and perform statistical analysis

+ Ability to be flexible and work on changing priorities

+ Experience using most of the following instruments Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA), High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC-MS), Universal Tester (Tensile/Flexural modulus), FTIR, and optical microscopy

+ Knowledge/use of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics.

+ Basic computer skills – able to learn new computer programs.
