Job Description
Building Structural Engineer
This position will work within our Government Market in the Building Structural Discipline on building and facilities projects, as well as other structural projects in all of Hanson’s Markets. The available office locations for this position will be Springfield, IL, Peoria, IL, St. Louis, MO and Lisle, IL. Other Hanson locations will be considered depending on the qualifications of the candidate.
A Day in the Life of a Building Structural Engineer
+ Perform complex engineering calculations, utilize computer software for analysis and design, and work efficiently with other team members for project completion.
+ Conduct analysis and design, calculation, preparation of specifications, details, and construction plans.
+ Assist in project activities such as proposal development, site investigations and field reconnaissance, and processing assistance, utility locations, computer modelling, construction document preparation, construction contractor pricing and procurement assistance, report of findings preparation, and project close-out documentation.
+ Potential to assign duties and mentor entry level staff depending on level of experience.
+ Prepare and review calculations, quantity take-offs, and opinions of probable construction costs.
+ Other duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
+ Experience with Revit is preferred.
+ Experience with MicroStation is a plus.
+ Experience with MS Office Suite preferred.
+ Experience with structural design software packages such as Risa a plus.
Soft Skills:
+ Must be able to communicate complex technical concepts to engineers, clients, and/or public stakeholders.
+ Must be able to build effective relationships with internal and external client bases.
+ Must be able to work independently and as a team member to problem solve and learn new technical skills.
+ Interest in experiencing a variety of assignments is important.
Education/Experience:
+ 0-15 years of experience is desirable.
+ PE License is desirable.
+ SE License or the ability to obtain an SE License is required.
+ Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is desirable.

+ Must be willing to accept periodic out-of-town travel assignments.
+ Must be willing and able to work overtime to meet project demands and deadlines.
