Job Summary
The Roadway Staff Engineer is responsible for assisting the team in all aspects of the roadway design process, from feasibility studies through completion of construction administration. The Roadway Staff Engineer should anticipate being part of the team assigned to complete public involvement activities (meetings, hearings, community advisory group events, stakeholder outreach, etc.); preliminary design plan development (drafting, alignment & profiles, utility data collection, ROW verification, geometric layout); preparing final contract documents (drafting, finalizing geometric design, Maintenance of Traffic, quantity calculations, etc.).
The Roadway Staff Engineer may be asked to provide support in preparing various reports and conducting field inspections to verify design conditions under the supervision of a licensed engineer. This individual will need to be able to work with other engineers on a project team and communicate effectively with project team members, other disciplines, subconsultants, and clients. The Engineer at this level is in a developmental mode, being trained under close supervision in utilizing engineering theories/practices and gaining exposure to company procedures.
Primary Responsibilities
Assist in preparing and issuing client deliverables and other documents sent by Patrick Engineering to outside parties under the supervision of a licensed engineer.
Provide support in the preparation of calculations to support the client deliverables, such as material quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and outside party coordination.
Complete assigned tasks per the direction given, in the allotted hours and within the timeframe.
Utilize MicroStation and AutoCAD to develop engineering drawings.
Perform field work to verify existing design conditions, check work progress, problem-solving, and public outreach.
Observe safety and security procedures; report potentially unsafe conditions and use equipment and materials properly.
Perform other duties associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Professional Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited institution required (discipline in Civil, Transportation, or equivalent fields of study).
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred or ability to obtain within six months of hire date.
Relevant internship experience or entry-level design experience in Transportation is preferred.
0-4 years of entry-level design experience required.
Basic familiarity with standard roadway design practices.
Familiarity with Bentley Roadway software (MicroStation, ProjectWise, Open-Roads, Geopak, etc.). Civil3D or GIS experience is a plus.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Additional Requirements
20% travel ( i.e., job sites) may be required based upon business need.
