Summary:
Provide security management and technical support for the IT infrastructure that supports the business of the College. This infrastructure includes servers, laptops, storage, backup, Internet connectivity, remote access, wireless networks, and other related areas. Both the Washington DC and Chicago locations are included. Assist the help desk staff on complex security support issues. Stay current with IT industry security trends and identify beneficial upgrades for the College.
This exempt position will report to the Senior Security Engineer in the Division of Information Technology. It is based in our Chicago office and is a hybrid role: 3 days per week in the office/2 days per week remote.
Primary Responsibilities:

Security Management including installation and monitoring of security software systems, development of security policies, and response to security incidents.


Install, maintain, and monitor security applications for servers, including email, web, network storage, database, and application servers.


Assist on complex issues, including the remediation of audit findings and generating reports.


Resolve technical issues as they arise, develop, and implement plans to reduce the incidence of issues.


Work with a wide range of vendor partners to tune and optimize the multi layered threat protection ecosystem. Respond to alarms and perform investigations and remediation of threats.


Produce policy documentation and update configuration management databases to keep all items current.
Required Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university is preferred, but not required.


Cybersecurity certificate is a plus.


At least 1 year of similar or related experience is preferred.


Hands on training in various security, networking and server technologies including patch management and security scanning technology is required.


Training in monitoring and correlating event logs and managing event log platforms is required.


Proficiency in security administration, network protocols, server administration, TCP/IP, Linux, Windows Server, Cisco, email management, routing hardware and protocols, and firewalls is preferred.


Demonstrated experience to help implement and manage HIPAA and PCI compliance projects is a plus.


Hands-on experience with web-application firewalls, intrusion detection systems, deployment of security event management systems, and configuring enterprise firewalls is a plus.
