Summary: The Instructional Designer, Trauma Quality Education, will play a key role in design, technical development, and deployment of training and education for participants in Trauma Quality Programs, including but not limited to TQIP, Verification, Trauma Systems, and Injury Prevention. This position will work collaboratively with program managers, subject matter experts, internal team, and external partners to create and revise content for live, hybrid, and web-based courses and tools. Working with leadership, this person will participate in strategic planning, assessment of training effectiveness, and standardization of education programming across the Trauma division. The person in this role will function as the project manager for education projects.
This exempt position will report to the Instructional Design Manager in the Division of Research and Optimal Patient Care. It is based in our Chicago office and is a hybrid role: 3 days per week in the office/2 days per week remote.
Planning: Under the supervision of the Instructional Design Manager, oversee planning phases of instructional design projects, including needs assessments, planning calls, subject matter expert (SME) management, and intervention/assessment design. Partner with staff and leadership to ensure the production of high-quality work is completed on time and within budget. Work with the TQP staff education steering committee to prioritize, plan and execute education and training to support the goals and objectives of the programs. Utilize project management tools and principles to manage project and SME communication, time tracking, and milestones.
Content Development and Execution: Under the supervision of the Instructional Design Manager, carry out all technical development according to storyboards/design specs using Articulate 360 and related software, including video, audio, and photo editing. Manage the QA and user testing and oversee implementation of online courses into the ACS Learning Management System. Partner with staff to ensure completion of high-quality work, on time, and within budget, to meet stakeholder expectations.
Strategic Responsibility: Participate in business development activities to standardize education design processes in the division, to measure the effectiveness of training programs, and help identify areas for improvement and growth. Partner with Surgeon leaders, senior staff, and teammates to assess needs and execute on committee goals. Investigate innovative uses of technology for creating, maintaining, and deploying learning experiences. Seek opportunities for professional development that will enhance job performance. Pursue and welcome evolution of responsibilities and growth in position.
Committee/Customer Support: Provide prompt, professional and informed support to subject matter experts, committee and work group members, COT and ACS leadership. Serve as subject matter expert for the instructional design process, and assist in the development and implementation of technical training for internal and external teams/stakeholders.
Other expectations: Contribute enthusiastically to an environment of continual performance improvement, team collaboration, and service to improve care of the injured patient, executed in accordance with ACS Values. Create and maintain written organized processes and procedures in support of all projects and activities handled in the education design and development area.
Required Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education Technology, Education, or similar from an accredited college or university is required. Or, bachelor's degree with a certificate in Instructional Design.
