Job Summary:
As a team member in our Alternative Investments practice, you will assist in providing tax compliance & consulting services to our Private Equity, Hedge Fund, Fund of Fund, Foreign (non-US Partnerships) and Real Estate clients.
Job Duties:
As a Tax Manager in our Alternative Investments Practice you will play a key role. Job duties include:
Tax Compliance
Ensures both that (a) clients comply with all applicable authorities, while at the same time minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and (b) self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual ("TQM").
Applies understanding of client's unique set of circumstances, documentation, and/or other requirements mandated by law and prepares required filings (tax returns) using a system of review and documentation to ensure that the client is in full compliance, while keeping the client's tax and reporting burden's as low as possible;
Ensures all data needed to comply with filing requirements are collected; identifies and properly communicates missing items to prepare return;
Utilizes Firm compliance software to maximize efficiency in tax prep process
Effectively teams with Partner, Managing Directors, Tax Seniors, and Associates on completion of project and coordination of client deliverables to meet client deadlines
Delivering high quality federal, state, and international tax compliance services
Leading complex engagements with a team of tax professionals
Managing the engagement, including billing, collections, and the budget for projects
Building and managing client relationships
Ensuring/Documenting client work and conclusions in the client tax file
Tax Consulting
Assist with identifying, developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective tax strategies
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Managing teams of Tax Seniors and Associates
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or other relevant field, required
Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferred
Experience:
More than five (5) years of prior tax experience, required
Financial Services industry experience supporting Alternative Investment funds including: Private Equity, Fund of Funds, Foreign Partnerships Real Estate, and Hedge Funds, required
Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships, required
Proficiency in identifying and reporting required information for US investors in foreign partnerships
License/Certifications:
CPA or Licensed Attorney, or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent, required
Software:
Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat
Experience with tax research databases
Proficient in tax compliance process software
Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Solid verbal and written communication skills
Able to follow instructions as directed by members of Tax Team
Takes appropriate actions without being asked
Seeks advice of appropriate superiors regarding issues, problems related to compliance
Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.
California Range: $136,000 - $165,000
Colorado Range: $130,000 - $155,000
New York City/ Valhalla Range: $175,000 - $180,000
Washington Range: $132,000 - $150,000
