Manages and leads small to medium size projects and/or programs to scale-up and introduce new products, improve product quality, product margins, productivity, and capacity in Operations globally. Project examples: line extension, flavor changes, season in & out food. The incumbent has an impact on the Corporation through knowledge and application of a technical discipline. Manages up to – 2 small to medium projects (product relocations, flavor extensions, base food improvements, in/out promotions, food news or low capital). Also, supports up to 2 large or 9 small to medium projects.
Responsibilities:
1. Develops, organizes, manages, and coordinates important global projects while increasing the incumbent’s level of understanding of projects, processes, and methods, as well as giving general direction to assigned teams in accomplishing projects on technical and scientific investigation or developments.
2. Provides technical or scientific direction and expertise within the department and globally as an expert in a specific discipline who keeps current with the latest developments and technology through investigation, training, and communication within that discipline.
3. Demonstrates leadership within a specific discipline and assists in developing global Company philosophy and direction within that discipline.
4. Exhibits innovation in discovery, advancement, and evaluation of new technologies in the area of food/process research and development, which can have a significant impact on new products, improved products or processes, and/or capital avoidance globally.
5. Innovation/Creativity — to provide innovative, timely, and cost effective improvements, concepts, developments, or scientific insight and understanding with respect to new or existing products or processes globally.
Core Job Duties:
1. Develops test plan for each plant test or startup and reviews plan with appropriate plant and team members.
2. Prior to tests, estimates testing and scale-up costs (for plant labor, burden, materials, engineering expense, etc.). After tests are complete, negotiates with plant the manufacturing test or startup costs to be charged back to the project. Ensures timely communication of estimates, budget updates and plant charge-backs to appropriate budget coordinator.
3. Works with the plant and team to estimate operational ongoing costs (raw material waste, overweights, clean-up and change-over time, etc.).
4. Provides input to operations on the development of start-up curves.
5. Develops production formulas, reviews them with key team members to ensure they match the official formula, and issues production formulas to the plant. Ensures production formulas are uploaded to Product Manuals SharePoint site.
6. Issues plant requests and/or purchase orders for co-manufacturers and raw materials required for the test.
7. Sets up and leads the kick-off meetings with key plant and team personnel prior to initiating test.
8. During the test or startup, leads daily team meetings with key team personnel. Provides regular updates for project status and next steps to management.
9. Conducts final wrap-up meeting with key team and plant personnel at the conclusion of the test.
10. Communicates results and reviews plant produced food with management.
11. Writes and issues a plant test or startup report in a timely fashion, which includes the results, data compilation and next steps. For startup reports, process troubleshooting knowledge and Standard Operating Conditions are also included. Upload appropriate documentation to SharePoint.
12. Works with Product Developer, Quality representative, and Plant to refine/optimize the process, reduces COGS, and resolve quality issues.

+5 years of experience as a Food Technologist
Experience supporting development of procedures and processes
Experience in cereal industry
