Job Summary 
 Graduate Assistantship Overview
Elmhurst University welcomes applications for a graduate assistantship in the Weigand Center for Professional Excellence (WCPE) for the 2024-2025 academic year, which is eligible for renewal for the 2025-2026 academic year. This is a student position. Interested applicants will need to submit an application for admission into a degree seeking graduate program at elmhurst.edu/graduatestudies and be accepted before becoming eligible for consideration for a graduate assistant position that correlates with their area of study.

 

Graduate assistants at Elmhurst University may be hired for a full tuition waiver based on 20 hours of service per week. Graduate assistants will also receive a stipend while they are working, paid bi-weekly, in support of their continued education. Graduate assistants will participate in their assistantships during the Fall and Spring terms at minimum and may be required to participate during January and/or Summer terms.

 

Eligible Graduate Programs: M.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, M.B.A.

Weekly Hours: 20

Tuition Waiver: Full
Stipend: $625 monthly, August-May 
Terms: Fall, January, Spring

Special Notation: Offers for this position are conditional upon acceptance into one of the above noted graduate programs at Elmhurst University. Graduate students must maintain full-time enrollment in their graduate program in order to maintain a graduate assistantship.

 


Nature of Work

The Weigand Center for Professional Excellence (WCPE) supports Elmhurst University students and alumni as they identify their strengths, explore career possibilities and prepare for the job search. The Graduate Assistant provides administrative support to the following programmatic areas of the WCPE: the Mentoring Program, Career Education, and E-celerator/Jans Program. This position is supervised by the Director of Career Education and the Director, Jans Program, and E-celerator Executive in Residence.
Salary Grade
Essential Functions 
 Mentoring Program:
Aids in matching of student proteges with professional mentors.
Maintains the program database.
Enhances mentoring relationships through follow-up, check-ins, and assessments with both students and mentors.
Assists in researching additional mentors for specific needs for short and long-term opportunities.
Assists with the training program for new mentors and students.
Creates, monitors, and enhances resources for students and mentors, including, for example the Mentoring Program's LinkedIn page.
Monitors the Mentoring Program email account and responds to all request for information regarding the program.


Career Education:
Works in conjunction with staff and adjunct faculty to prepare materials for and/or facilitate activities in two career courses as needed.
Participates in presentations on resume writing to classrooms and other interest groups.
Serves as a resume reviewer as part of the peer review process and provides feedback to students on improvement suggestions.
Monitors the email account for initial resume submissions through the resume builder AI and responds with feedback to students on their initial drafted resumes.
Assists drop-in students looking for resume assistance or assistance with LinkedIn as needed.
Develops marketing for events via various mediums and sends notifications to appropriate individuals.
Provides support for prospective student sessions/events
Monitors the career education and mentoring page website and flags needed updates to appropriate WCPE staff.
Coordinates communication with students completing experiential learning, shadowing, or informational interviews in Career Education.

Jans Program/E-celerator:
Supports marketing efforts, database management, and outreach processes for the E-celerator, Jans Program, where applicable.

Minimum Qualifications 
 Bachelor's degree.
Demonstrated commitment to working with and serving diverse students, faculty, and staff.
Strong customer service orientation.
Interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work well independently and in teams.
