PRINCIPAL DATABASE ANALYST
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
Number of Positions: 1

Salary: $112,404; G-10
This position is open to the public and all current city employees covered under the City’s Collective Bargaining Agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) – BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Under direction, functions as a technical team leader for the design, implementation, and management of database systems and new database technologies, and performs related duties as required
As a technical expert OR team leader, assignments at this level typically require considerable knowledge of database design and analysis, or specialized knowledge of a subject matter, discipline, or function. Positions in this class title are allocated across various City departments and perform a wide range of functions that are specific to the operational needs of the department. Common specialty titles of functional roles for positions in this class title include but are not limited to: Lead/Supervising System Database Analyst, Lead/Supervising Application Database Analyst, and Lead/Supervising Database Developer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Query and report on various transportation related data
- Maintain CDOT’s Advanced Traffic Management System
- Identify system maintenance issues
- Coordinate with consultants and internal users
- Monitor data flow through API’s
- Check operation of field devices supplying or publishing traffic data
- Monitor server patching and upgrade activities, coordination with other CDOT departments and external partners
- Act as IT and data liaison for CDOT’s Intelligent Transportation System projects
Additional duties may be required for this position.
LOCATION: 2 N LaSalle, Suite 950, Chicago, IL 60602
DAYS/HOURS: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology/Systems, or a directly related field, plus two years of experience in maintaining and designing integrated database systems, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
This position requires an applicant to successfully complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position based on the oral interview, will be selected according to the collective bargaining agreement.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
· Previous experience with Geographical Information Systems (GIS), large transportation databases and/or systems
· Previous experience in Database Administration of Oracle or Postgres or a similar relational database, SQL Programming, or scripting languages
