We are looking for our next Associate Commercial Counsel where you will provide strategic direction and leadership to the Contract Management process and team and manage legal risk in the contracts KONE enters into with its customers and vendors. Ability to manage high volume of contracts and prioritize based on customer need. This position reports to the Senior Commercial Counsel.

Please note: This position is Hybrid / Remote located in Lisle or Moline, IL.

RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Responsible for setting strategic direction of contractual legal support provided to business. Assist in leading and directing a team of contract and insurance professionals (Contract/Insurance Specialists, Insurance Associates) across the U.S. and Canada to review contracts and associated legal risk. Develop and mentor team.

+ Identify legal issues/risks associated with KONE contracts. Educate business and team of these risks and respective mitigations. Provide training to front line and business lines to raise awareness on contracts and insurance processes, risks, and mitigations.

+ Draft, review and negotiate complex or high-risk contracts in each area of KONE’s business (including Sourcing, Supply Chain, Marine, etc.), Letters of Intent, NDAs, Vendor Agreements, Trade Agreements, Subrogation Agreements, Government Contracts, and any other legal agreements as needed.

+ 1) Budgeting for Contract Management team, its processes and systems. 2) Collaborate with global colleagues on any issues needing support.

+ Lead special projects related to the contract management, ECMS, and insurance COI process. Continuously LEAN/improve process for efficiencies (Artificial Intelligence, Deadly Sins, Approvals, etc.).

The ideal candidate for this position will be able to influence others, including executive leadership, to accept practices and approaches. Possess superior verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking. Maintain strong leadership, business acumen, collaboration, and multi-tasking skills. Adept at strategic problem-solving. Proficient with Microsoft Office 365, including Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, and other business applications required. Possess working knowledge with Workday, preferred . Legal skills necessary to review high risk contracts. Able to present superior negotiation, organizational, and time management skills.

HIRING REQUIREMENTS

+ At least 3-5 years working with commercial contracts in a corporate or law firm setting.

+ Construction industry or government contracts experience preferred. Strong negotiation skills handling complex contract requirements.

+ In-house experience strongly preferred.

+ Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university and J.D. from accredited law school in the US, or equivalent. Licensure as required by the jurisdiction.
