Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Early-Career Geotechnical Engineer in Chicago, Illinois, Oak Brook, IL or Richmond, Virginia. In this position, you will have the opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real-world situations on projects involving site characterization; earth retaining structures; marine/coastal structures; ground improvement; environmental sediment remediation; deep and soft/weak foundations; dams and water containment structures; forensic investigations and litigation support; geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring; geohazard/earthquake characterization/mitigation; landfill design and construction; and advanced 2D and 3D numerical modeling; while learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conducting geotechnical field investigations on land and offshore;
Geotechnical site characterization and constitutive model calibration using laboratory index and strength testing and field data, including boreholes, SPTs, Rock coring, sCPTu's, and geophysical testing);
Performing and reviewing engineering calculations including but not limited to slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, seepage, liquefaction, seismic, steel connections design, reinforced concrete design, limit equilibrium of earth retaining structures, tieback anchors design, and 2D-3D finite element analyses;
Monitoring heavy civil construction projects;
Writing and reviewing engineering reports;
Developing construction documents; and
Regular field work and overnight travel. (required)
Education and Licensure
Bachelor's degree in civil and/or environmental engineering or geology. (required)
Advanced degree in geotechnical engineering. (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Prior internship or work experience in engineering consulting. (preferred)
At least 2 years of relevant work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
Experience with geotechnical and engineering software such as AutoCAD, Mathcad, Rocscience Suite, Slope/W, CTshoring, Support IT, Lpile, DeepEx, and PLAXIS. (preferred)
Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
