Geotechnical Designer
Benesch is offering a career opportunity for a Geotechnical Designer to join our Railroad Division to support railroad clients located across the United States. When joining our team, we provide mentoring and training to accelerate an engineering graduate's career from entry-level Geotechnical Designer 1 to senior subject matter expert, Senior Technical Manager.

Location
This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, allowing you to work closely with our team of experts. Benesch has geotechnical teams and a focus on geotechnical business development in several locations: Baltimore, Maryland; Jacksonville, Florida; Nashville, Tennessee; Richmond, Virginia; Cincinnati, Ohio; Illinois (Naperville, Chicago); Georgia (Atlanta, Augusta) or North Carolina. 
The Impact You Will Have
This position will require travel to project and facility sites located across the continental United States, likely involving out-of-town trips.
Classify and log geotechnical borings during subsurface exploration operations.
Verify that work performed during subsurface explorations are conducted in accordance with railroad and Benesch safety requirements, proposal documents, and ASTM specifications.
Verify that soil samples acquired during the geotechnical exploration are handled and delivered to the material testing laboratory in accordance with ASTM specifications.
Submit draft boring logs and laboratory testing assignments to the Project Engineer.
Present final laboratory test assignments to material laboratory staff.
Provide specialized observation during construction phases to ensure geotechnical aspects are properly addressed and implemented.
Monitor and test civil and structural installations, including cut and fill earthwork, footing, and pile installation, and ground stabilization activities.
Install and maintain geotechnical instrumentation to monitor ground conditions and structural integrity throughout project lifecycles.
Assist with geotechnical evaluations, calculations, and designs for foundations (footings and piles), retaining walls, and slopes.
Prepare draft geotechnical engineering reports.

What You Will Need
Minimum bachelor's degree of Science in Civil Engineering. (Master's degree in geotechnical engineering is a plus, but not required.)
0-2 years of geotechnical or civil engineering experience.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others.
Maintaining a professional image and a respectful attitude.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Competent use of applicable Microsoft Office products.
