Department: NUL Access Services
Salary/Grade: NEX/10

Job Summary:
Under general supervision, performs specialized inventory management services at all of NUL's Evanston shelving locations. Staffs Access Services service desks. Performs material paging, reshelving and document scanning work.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm. 37.5 hours a week.
Working Conditions: Position involves physical activity of standing, walking, and bending/kneeling. Must be able to move and lift up to 30 pounds.
Please Note: The target budgeted minimum starting salary for this position is $21.96 hourly. Offers will be based on candidate experience and education, as well as equity within Northwestern University. This position is in a bargaining unit represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 73.
Specific Responsibilities:
Collections and Stacks Management:
Assists in the hiring, training, and supervision of student assistants for shelving, shelf-reading, shifting projects, collection moves, and other stacks work in Main, Deering, Math, and Mudd Libraries. Provides backup to the Library Assistant 3 in assigning work to student workers. Coordinates with others to ensure that collection spaces are well-organized and that items are reshelved in a timely manner. Assists with preparing and revising department training manuals. Sorts, shelves and shelf-reads collections in Main, Deering, Math, and Mudd Libraries. Participates in shifting projects.
Collection Locations Logistics:
Under the direction of the Resource Sharing and Collections Coordinator and the Oak Grove Operations Manager, will coordinate the relocation of collection materials to remote storage, i.e., Oak Grove. Assists with pulling items for transfer to Oak Grove Library Center, updates their records. Runs Alma reports to identify missing books and cataloging issues; performs searches and record maintenance to make them available.
Departmental Support Services:
Assists with departmental duties including paging materials from shelving locations, updating item or patron records, media center support, and scanning print materials for course reserve, document delivery and interlibrary loan lending. Provides service desk staffing as well as service desk student worker backup and support. Provides basic interpretation of policies and procedures, explains and answers questions that may arise; recommends changes. Refers patrons to other library service points as needed.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
A high school diploma, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired.
At least 2-years of experience in a library or equivalent environment.
Significant customer service experience in a fast-paced library, retail, or similar environment.
Demonstrates a learning aptitude for emerging technologies that apply to library services and operations.
