Duties and Responsibilities 
 Job Title: Postbaccalaureate Research Assistant - Cell Culture and Protein Biochemistry Part time (50%)

 

Position Overview:

The Postbaccalaureate Research Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting ongoing research projects focused on cell culture and protein biochemistry within the laboratory. Under the guidance of the Principal Investigator (PI) or senior researchers, the incumbent will be responsible for executing experiments, maintaining cell cultures, and assisting with protein biochemistry techniques. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to gain hands-on experience in basic research methodologies and contribute to advancing scientific knowledge in the field.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Cell Culture Maintenance:

- Prepare cell culture media, solutions, and reagents following established protocols.

- Perform routine maintenance of cell lines, including passage, splitting, and cryopreservation.

- Monitor cell cultures for contamination and ensure proper environmental conditions are maintained.

2. Experimental Execution:

- Assist in conducting experiments related to cell culture and protein biochemistry, as outlined by the research plan.

- Perform assays to assess cell viability, proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation.

- Conduct protein extraction, purification, and quantification procedures.

3. Data Collection and Analysis:

- Record experimental procedures, observations, and data accurately and meticulously.

- Assist in data analysis, including basic statistical analysis and interpretation of results.

- Prepare clear and concise reports summarizing experimental findings for review by the research team.

4. Laboratory Organization and Maintenance:

- Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory spaces and equipment.

- Assist in inventory management, including ordering and stocking of supplies.

- Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

5. Collaboration and Communication:

- Collaborate effectively with other members of the research team, including graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and technicians.

- Communicate experimental progress, results, and challenges to the PI and team members in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience 
 Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field) and zero-one year of related experience.
Qualifications 
 - Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field).

- Prior laboratory experience, particularly in cell culture and protein biochemistry techniques, is highly desirable.

- Familiarity with basic laboratory equipment and instrumentation commonly used in cell culture and protein analysis (e.g., pipettes, centrifuges, spectrophotometers).

- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to follow established protocols.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a research team.

- Demonstrated commitment to laboratory safety practices and adherence to ethical standards in research.
Certificates/Credentials/Licenses 
 Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field).
Computer Skills 
 - Prior laboratory experience, particularly in cell culture and protein biochemistry techniques, is highly desirable.
