Description:

The University of Illinois Chicago is seeking to fill a Grounds Gardener position. Under general supervision, to assist in supervising Grounds Workers, Maintenance Laborers, Extra Help, and student employees; assist in caring and maintaining plant materials, walk drives, and parking lots at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Reports to the Foreman and Superintendent of Grounds, who in turn reports to the Associate Director, Facilities Management.

Duties & Responsibilities

Train employees in the proper care and maintenance of plants and grounds equipment.
Supervise and assist in the planting, transplanting, pruning, watering, trimming, and spraying of plant material in a professional manner.
Supervise and assist in the removal of paper and trash from the lawns, shrubs, hedges, building entrances, steps, porches, roofs, docks, walkways, and driveways.
Supervise and assist in the removal of snow and ice.
Supervise and assist in the maintenance of walks and drives, parking lot surfaces, by filling holes and cracks.
Perform office duties such as ordering material, writing reports, writing part of the daily work schedule.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications


High school diploma or equivalent.
Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience in the maintenance of gardens, lawns, shrubs, or trees.
