Job Description
30% 1. Under immediate supervision, serves as an Application Information Services Specialist I for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT):
- Performs limited maintenance and/or enhancements to existing programs or development of new programs of increasing difficulty for the Financial/Materials Management team.
- Serves as member of a team providing information technology services for the development, enhancement, and maintenance of Enterprise Application Services support systems.
- Performs small to moderate modifications to existing program code by following written specifications, written narrative and/or verbal direction, and by using the accepted software tools required for the associated platform and programming environment, including diagnostic testing of various hardware/software components.
- Implements required fixes to correct problems defined during diagnostics adhering to all Department of Innovation & Technology adopted standards and methodology.
- Documents problems and corrective actions.
- Performs limited assignments in application services to gain knowledge through fundamental understanding of system development life cycle (SDLC) processes, COBOL, Easytrieve PLUS, Panvalet, Job Control Language (JCL), TSO/ISPF, and other object-oriented and integrated scripting languages.
- Performs operational systems support utilizing application tools such as IBM MVS/ESA operating system; and utilities such as MS Office Suite and MS Visio.
25% 2. Assists in fact-finding and analysis to resolve problems relating to user procedures/training and software malfunctions:
- Gains knowledge to research, evaluate, and test software applications to support recommendations.
- Isolates software problems and reports problems to higher level developers.
15% 3. Works with experienced systems analysts in preparing testing specifications and developing test data for all modified programs:
- Performs testing and debugging of all assigned programs ensuring all logic paths are tested and pre-determined results are verified according to established methods and procedures.
15% 4. Prepares and maintains written documentation for assigned tasks:
- Assists lead analyst in the configuration, testing, installation, and documentation, including revisions and corrections for both the on-line and batch environment.
5% 5. Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology (IT) field:
- Continues education by attending meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.
- Attends demonstrations and exhibitions related to assigned operations
5% 6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
