Job Description

40%   Under general direction, serves as an Application Developer for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT), supporting the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH):
•    Performs difficult and specialized professional work in the Information Technology area of Application Services.
•    Works as a member of a team of developers and analysts establishing and maintaining assigned applications. 
•    Performs professional advisory functions in the development and analysis tasks assigned by the project manager utilizing HL7, HL7 PHIR, IBM Web Sphere Transformation Extender, Rhapsody, and laboratory software applications. 
•    Performs analysis, coding, and maintenance of interfaces that handle the processing of electronic lab report (ELR) data for Hospitals, labs, and other facilities.
•    Coordinates with the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) to create new interfaces for case reporting utilizing, SQL Server, and Java application programming and transmission.


20%   Performs complex analysis and consults with the Project Manager on data analysis for input into the Illinois Disease Surveillance System and other assigned systems and applications.


15%   Provides input and assists the Project Manager with the creation and modifications of design documents:
•    Provides input on specifications, formats, record layout, and report formats for assigned applications.

15%   Assists the Project Manager with the implementation and deployment of assigned applications to the application servers:  
•    Provides input and assists in the monitoring of the application performance and communication with network and server support staff for related application issues.


5%   Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology and Healthcare Integration fields:
•    Continues education by attending meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.
•    Attends demonstrations and exhibitions related to assigned operations.


5%   Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
