Job Summary

The Supervisor, Signals and Communication (S&C) Call Desk is responsible for providing operational system support. The role delivers engineering employee dispatching and provides train dispatch system support in a mission critical environment. The incumbent ensures that documentation and business rules are created, maintained, and followed throughout the work processes. Analyzes situations to develop advanced planning and monitoring within the different groups as well as supports the operation and continuous improvement of engineering support.

Main Responsibilities

Call Desk and Systems Coordination

· Maintain system availability for the Rail Traffic Control (RTC) and investigate system problems related to hardware and software

· Monitor systems and the development of future systems

· Provide technical support for incident and failure investigation

· Prepare safe deactivation and reactivation of equipment to support RTC upgrades

· Work with Transportation and Train Control on any changes involving Control and Monitoring systems

· Collaborate with Head Quarter staff and suppliers on system bugs

· Collaborate with Information and Technology (I&T) on implementing and decommissioning telecommunication infrastructure that may impact trains

People Management

· Oversee the day-to-day activities of the Call Desk and ensure operational efficiency and accuracy standards are maintained

· Lead teams of non-unionized officers

· Ensure team has adequate training and development plans and ensure regular audits are completed to evaluate quality of work

· Provide training, mentoring and support on office systems, tools and investigations

Compliance

· Regularly review processes and procedures and update to maintain best practices

· Assist in any Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) investigations and provide field support

· Plan, coordinate, and direct the installation and testing of office signal and communication devices in accordance with engineering practices and approved railway standards, specifications, and procedures

Working Conditions

The role is performed in an office environment with varying workdays. Therole requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to emergencies affecting the safe passage of trains. The incumbent must also respond to off-duty calls and work off-duty hours to support Call Desk coverage such as vacations. The role requires minimal travel (up to 5%), which may include overnight stays away from home, based on territory and project requirements.

Requirements

Experience

Railway Signal

· Minimum 7 years of experience in the S&C Call Desk

· Experience with ServiceNow*

*Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation

· Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Technologist, Communication Technologist, or equivalent*

· Valid Driver’s License

*Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

· General computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP))

· Strong understanding of railway operations

· Knowledge of Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) and Wayside Inspection System (WIS)

· Knowledge of control system Precision Dispatch System (PDS), Railroad Crossing Warning System (RCWS)*
