Environmental Monitoring Group Lead

Job Description

Argonne National Laboratory is searching for an Environmental Monitoring Group Lead for our Environmental Protection Program. The candidate will be responsible for:

+ Managing a small group of scientists and engineers that will (1) Conduct monitoring and sampling to evaluate environmental conditions and demonstrate compliance with environmental regulatory programs (2) Prepare and maintain written procedures for sample collection, sample analysis, report preparation, sampling equipment maintenance and calibration, and data management.

+ Providing technical support to intra-/inter-divisional programs as requested.

+ Partnering with Environmental Protection Program manager to promote continual improvement of the Environmental Monitoring Group including development and tracking of environmental metrics.

+ Serving as an analyst and a sampler, and as a subject matter expert as needed

+ This position will be hybrid, on-site presence will be required 2-3 days each week.

Position Requirements

+ Knowledge of environmental science, plus substantial knowledge of methods and techniques used to monitor environmental media including, but not limited to, air, surface water, groundwater, effluent, sediment, and soil.

+ Working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations and programs, including DOE programs.

+ Demonstrated skill interpreting environmental data and subsequently communicating and reporting it to internal stakeholders and external regulatory agencies.

+ Demonstrated skill providing daily direction to and oversight of both experienced and inexperienced personnel.

+ Skilled at managing, developing, and motivating multi-disciplinary personnel.

+ Demonstrated skill in participating in and conducting audits, assessments, inspections, and walk-throughs is needed, including good interpersonal and dealing with adversarial situations that may arise during these activities.

+ Proficiency in adapting to changing priorities

+ Comprehensive oral and written communication skills and pressures, and the ability to work as a team member is necessary.

+ Good computer skills, data management skills, statistical applications and mathematical abilities are needed.

+ Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.

Educational requirement is a Bachelor’s and 6+ years of experience or a Master’s and 4+ years of experience.
