The Vehicle Health Management team is responsible for the development of data-driven service solutions combining signals transmitted from Ford vehicles and internal business intelligence to create data products and processes that will reduce down time for vehicles and enhance our customers’ ownership experience. Products include Prognostics, Vehicle Health Alerts and Cloud Assisted Diagnostics.


This position is located in Dearborn, MI and is a Hybrid role.**

In this position…

The Vehicle Health Management (VHM) team within Ford Customer Service Division’s Service Engineering Operations is looking for a highly skilled data scientist to assist in all levels of problem formulation, model development, evaluation, and deployment. The analyst will have significant autonomy in conducting research and selecting modeling methodologies. You will have the opportunity to work with the future of Ford owners’ vehicle service experiences.

In this role, you will:

+ Apply advanced statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms to analyze extensive datasets within the automotive industry, uncovering trends, patterns, and correlations crucial for addressing key business challenges.

+ Drive evidence-based decision-making processes by extracting insights from large, complex structured and unstructured data sets in connected vehicle data.

+ Collaborate with Vehicle Health Management teams to identify data requirements and derive actionable insights from research findings.

+ Develop data solutions enabling business teams to interpret data generated by connected vehicles, including dealership repair order, mobile app click, vehicle health alert, and prognostic data to further facilitate informed decision-making and proactive actions.

+ Identify and explore additional data sources, evaluating their potential for generating actionable business insights.

+ Design, maintain, and enhance predictive models, supporting strategic decision-making and operational efficiency within the company.

+ Align departmental objectives and metrics with the connected vehicle dealer/customer journey, establishing quantifiable outcomes to track progress and success.

+ Create comprehensive dashboards and processes for Vehicle Health Management supporting products like Prognostics, Vehicle Health Alerts, and Cloud Assisted Diagnostics.

You’ll have:

+ Master’s degree in Data Science, Actuarial Science (Applied Statistics), Mathematics, Computer Science or similar

+ Minimum of 10 years of work experience, with 7+ years in a data driven field

+ Design for Six Sigma Certified and/or Operational Excellence Methodologies

+ Database & Query knowledge and Understanding – Google Cloud Platform, Hadoop, Teradata or Oracle

+ SQL, BigQuery, Jupyter Notebook Experience

+ Strong analytical programming skills including Languages like R, Python, and SAS

+ Proven experience in data design, data architecture and data modeling (both transactional and analytic)

Even better, you may have:

+ Experience with Ford Motor Company or another automotive OEM, preferably in connected vehicle data

+ Visualization development – relevant experience utilizing GCP Looker or Tableau

+ Strong teammate with collaborative problem-solving skills and customer focus

+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with clear communication

+ Strong interpersonal and leadership skills for effective communication

+ Ability to anticipate obstacles and drive change creatively

+ Quick learner, highly self-motivated, and inventive

+ Outstanding organization, communication skills, and adherence to ethical values
