Position Summary, Requirements, and Qualifications
Overview
Northern Illinois University (NIU) is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Coach/Director of MBB Operations-Creative Content. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits. This position will assist head coach men's basketball with video coordination, scouting basketball centric software programs, content creation for recruiting purposes, coaching student-athletes, implementation and instruction of game strategy, on-campus recruiting prospective student-athletes, program organization, managing travel, conduct and image of the sport program and student-athletes of a major university sport program in conjunction with other departmental responsibilities as assigned.
Position Summary
This is a professional coaching position and all of the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules and regulations of affiliated national, regional and state intercollegiate athletic associations, the Mid-American conference (or subsequent member conference) and the university.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coaching - 20%
Coach student-athletes individually and in groups and demonstrate game techniques; this may manage a designated skill development area or group of positions, as assigned by the Head Coach.
Plan coaching and practice sessions in accordance with NCAA and conference regulations for specified positions.
Develop, recommend and teach game strategy and position assignments; this position will provide on-court coaching during competition.
Video and Film - 20%
Coordinating video exchange with opposing teams for countable coaches and game film exchange.
This position, in preparation for competition, will review opposing team film and provide scouting reports to coaches and student-athletes.
Marketing - 20%
Creates creative content to assist with recruiting and promote the men's basketball program via social media.
Administration - 20%
Assist in the administration of the entire sport program, including, but not limited to creating daily and weekly practices, game planning and implementation, recruiting, equipment management and facilities scheduling, with specific emphasis in opponent scouting reports and management of game day officiating reports.
Academic Support - 10%
Provide an overall positive educational environment for student-athletes conducive to learning, athletic development, social growth, and preparing them for life beyond college.
In conjunction with the Student Athlete Academic Support Services (SAASS) department, monitor academic progress and academic status of student-athletes, implementing corrective action plans through appropriate staff, if needed.
Assist with SAASS unit on academic progress of men's basketball student-athletes
Public Relations - 5%
Promote the university, athletic department and specific sport through community events, public speaking, fundraising and marketing.
Cash handling responsibilities- $5,000-$10,000 annually.
When practical under the circumstances, intercollegiate athletic staff are encouraged to voluntarily attend all athletic events to promote audience participation and support for NIU team efforts.
Assist with departmental needs as requested.
Recruiting - 5%
On-campus recruiting only that includes establishing relationships with high school, junior college, and four-year college prospective student-athletes and their parents, guardians, and/or coaches during official and unofficial visits.
