This position is grant funded and will continue for as long as the funding is available.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Completes intake with all new arrivals within two weeks of arrival.
Create a plan within 30 days of arrival and tracks progress of goals.
Creates and maintains paper and electronic files for new arrivals.
Maintains online database for the Refugee Social Services (RSS) grant, enters client demographic information and daily attendance at afterschool program.
Completes accurate assessments of current skills/abilities and language/literacy levels
Facilitates enrollment in in school at appropriate levels with needed supports
Completes quarterly check-ins with families regarding academic needs and progress of youth to assure engagement in their child's educations and cognizant of various services that may be needed by their children.
Provides after-school programming to provide further social emotional learning (SEL), language acquisition, and academic success
Organizes school-break field trips and special events that expose clients to a wide variety of institutions, activities, and events in the Chicago area.
Recruits, coordinates, and supervises volunteers for tutoring.
Coordinates annual ESL testing of all youth program participants and accurately tracks progress.
Acts as emergency contact for clients at their respective schools.
Acts as liaison between the school and clients to mediate both school-initiated and parent-initiated concerns.
Knowledgeable about educational and enrichment services available to clients and makes appropriate referrals.
Monitors client academic and social adjustment in school.
Facilitates special education evaluations and advocates for appropriate specialized services and students' rights as needed.
Creates leveled materials for new arrivals to prepare them for school.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors or equivalent work experience required
Fluency in second language preferred.
Cross-cultural experience/experience working with refugee and immigrant clients preferred.
Experience serving youth and their families either in a community-based organization or school or camp environment.
Ability to build rapport with children, youth, and families.
Energetic, organized, detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
Strong ability to work independently, remain focused, productive, and accomplish goals in a challenging, fluid and sometimes unpredictable environment while managing multiple demands.
Is able to maintain patience and calm, professional demeanor and take action in difficult situations
Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekend and evening hours when necessary.
Creative and able to design engaging and educational programs for children and youth
Ability to effectively supervise children and manage behavior while maintaining a professional and respectful tone
Proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and other basic computer programs.
Minimum of bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
Valid IL Driver's License, regular access to a vehicle, and auto insurance required.

Compensation:the minimum compensation for this position is $40,000
