Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D0324000 and is part of the IL 182 AW, National Guard. Responsibilities As a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC (TITLE 32),WG-5378-5/8/10, you will accomplish maintenance on electronically controlled powered support equipment containing highly complex digital devices and integrated circuits. Major Duties – This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Perform maintenance on electronically controlled powered support equipment containing highly complex digital devices and integrated circuits. Perform accurate interpretation of numerous manufacturer drawings, specifications, operating instructions, and test procedures on a variety of highly complex pieces of powered support equipment. Utilize a variety of sophisticated testers, such as analyzers, digital meters, oscilloscopes and other measuring devices to determine repair requirements. Conduct classes to train maintenance personnel in operations, test procedures, and troubleshooting requirements of highly complex powered support equipment. Perform maintenance data collection and prepares other required forms. Perform repairs to powered and non-powered ground and similar support equipment used for aircraft ground servicing and general utilities which include standby and emergency power generating systems. Determine work sequences, specifications, and special procedures to be used to fault-isolate and repair unusual problems in various pieces of powered support equipment. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state’s National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Qualifications AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted not to exceed TSgt GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work; ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and schematics, and skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing and repairing equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level – MUST possess specialized experience which includes 18 months experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories. Experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures’ repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics. WG-8 Level – MUST possess specialized experience which includes 12 months experience or training must demonstrate a basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic theory and the makeup and operation of the various individual systems and their interrelationships. Experience using a small variety of test and measurement devices. Experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components and accessories. Experience reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and schematics WG-5 Level – MUST possess specialized experience which includes 6 months experience or training using common hand tools and making repetitive repairs. Experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade. Knowledge of safety regulations and practices. In order to be considered qualified, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal service. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
