Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1636000 and is part of the IL 182 AW, National Guard. Responsibilities As a AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-8602-5/8/10, you will maintain, troubleshoot, remove, repair, install, certify, test, and perform operational checks on turboprop engines, propellers, and associated propulsion system components. Major Duties – This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Remove, install, certify, repair, modify, overhaul, and install turboprop engines, reduction gear boxes, turbine modules, compressor modules, auxiliary power units, propellers and related propeller components as required. Perform maintenance on all propulsion systems including troubleshooting and diagnosing defects, certifying, conducting bench checks, performing in-shop and on-equipment repairs and overhauls. Clean and inspect engine and propeller component parts such as turbines, gearboxes, blades, gears, bearings, etc. Solve all types of maintenance problems and perform bench checks and test engine and propeller assemblies for serviceability. Perform operational checks of installed propellers, engines, auxiliary power units, and subsystems during aircraft maintenance ground runs in accordance with approved checklists. Employ test equipment such as computer borescope, fuel pressure gauges, air pressure gauges, and alignment fixtures. Interpret certification findings and determine adequacy of corrective action. Certify installed and repaired engines for compliance with technical publications. Operate, certify, and maintain computerized engine test/trim automated systems on the engine test cell. Evaluate, identify, and correct problems on propeller and engine components causing vibration and impending failure. Remove engines and propellers from test stands and prepare units for aircraft installation or storage. Accomplish operator maintenance on the aircraft and engine sound suppresser facility, test stands and various pieces of ground equipment. Perform aircraft full power runs and complete engine and propeller efficiency checks. Maintain bench stock, parts, and equipment. Provide on-the-job training for assigned personnel. Advise supervisor of the experience and skill levels of assigned personnel. Prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations. Requirements Conditions of Employment NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state’s National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement. Qualifications AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted – May not exceed the rank of E7. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience or training that has provided the ability to perform assembly and disassembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories in accordance with technical specifications, procedures and requirements; and experience using hand and power tools common to the trade. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level – Must possess specialized experience, which includes 18 months experience or training performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories; experience or training performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft engines, engine components, and power trains for fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft; experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical record, and by own diagnosis. WG-08 Level – Must possess specialized experience, which includes 12 months experience or training removing and installing components and accessories with detailed guidance; experience in following detailed instructions in making minor repairs and modifications to aircraft engines, subassemblies and components. WG-05 Level – Must possess specialized experience, which includes 6 months experience using common hand tools in making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision; experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade. In order to be considered qualified, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal service. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
