Position Summary:
The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is seeking to hire an Accounting Associate for the Richard and Loan Hill Department of Biomedical Engineering. This position will be responsible for the purchasing and financial operations of the Department of Bioengineering. The Accounting Associate will provide day-to-day administrative and financial support for all core faculty, staff, and students, research labs, and unit-sponsored programs.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Coordinate and monitor transactions such as budget transfers, journal vouchers, etc., to accurately update budget and financial records.
Oversees and processes payments to external vendors and contractors
Processes daily purchasing requests, reimbursements and cash advances submitted by faculty, staff, and/or students
Creates, distributes, files, and maintains all purchasing reports according to the account charged for each individual faculty and staff.
Formulates, initiates, implements, and communicates policies related to the financial operation of the unit and purchasing policies applicable University-wide. In addition, the position incumbent must use appreciable ingenuity and innovation to conceive new business approaches and solutions to address complex problems and issues facing the Department of Biomedical Engineering
Provide general support services to departmental projects, programs, and events which include assisting the Office Support Specialist with coordinating events, workshops, conferences meetings, and seminars by inviting, scheduling and making all travel arrangements.
Processes and schedules shipping requests for all departmental purposes.
With Business Manager supervision, manage grant activities (post-award only) by developing and administering comprehensive reports to manage grant expenditure.
Develop a shadow system to reconcile sponsored project expenses against Banner, track cost share expenses, and forecast budget balance
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications


A. Bachelor's degree with a major in Accountancy or a related field AND two (2) years of professional level accounting experience.
OR
B. Possession of current registration as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant, or a valid license to practice Public Accounting (LPA).
OR
C. Master's degree in Accountancy or a related field. Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of University Policies and Procedures related to purchasing operations or experience in another university setting
Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills
Strong quantitative, technical and computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Ability to work independently and exercise judgment in order to be able to analyze a variety of questions or problems.
