The City's Water Utility is hiring for 2 self-motivated individuals who enjoys working outdoors, can work with minimal supervision, and is comfortable driving a City truck. The hours are Monday - Friday (7 am - 3:30 pm), mid-May to mid-August. This position is an excellent opportunity to network with City employees and to learn and work for a very progressive organization.

Duties

 

  • Scrape and paint hydrants (all City hydrants are painted on a 5-year cycle). 
  • Mow grass, perform sprinkler patrol, clean and organize warehouse inventory 
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • You will be required to drive daily on City business.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Be handy with basic hand tools and yard machinery.
  • Professional demeanor required in order to represent the City while interacting with residents.
  • High school graduate. Some college coursework preferred.
  • Be able to work in outdoor (potentially extreme temperature) conditions, lift. kneel, crouch, stand and walk for significant periods throughout the day. 
  • Be at least 18 years of age.  
  • Have a valid State of Illinois Class D Driver's License. Applicants should possess a driving history with no moving violations for at least the last twelve (12) months.
  • Please note: children, stepchildren, or grandchildren of City employees or City Council members are not eligible to apply.
  • Any offer of employment will be contingent upon a pre-employment / post-offer drug screen.
