Job Description

OpticsPlanet (Northbrook, IL) seeks a Software Engineer to work on the most complex projects being introduced in the company's e-commerce web platform, working with other developers and enforcing best practices and coding standards on both a team and department level. Specific duties include: develop enterprise web applications using Object Oriented Code in Symfony 2 framework on a LAMP stack, utilizing several open-source technologies; work together with other Agile team members to solve software engineering problems from start to finish; architect and develop new features and systems, as well as improve existing platform components; develop and integrate with 3rd party tools and services, as well as integrate between different in-house systems; follow industry trends to recommend and apply them to technology stack; drive quality improvement initiatives; evolve and enforce coding standards and best practices; participate in company tech talks, demos and mentorship programs; perform data mining and analytics, including multi-database reporting; participate in agile processes, peer code reviews, and continuous integration; participate in whole spectrum of web development tasks, including writing web apps (both front-end and back-end work), web service for consumers and providers, automated publishing tools for our stores and retail channels, and critical business analytics applications. Must take and pass pre-interview coding test.

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, or a closely related field of study, plus 2 years of experience in the job offered, or as a Senior Software Engineer, or similar Software Engineer or PHP Developer experience. Employer will also accept single degree, or any combination of degrees, professional credentials or work experience determined to be equivalent to a US Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or a closely related field by a qualified evaluation service. Must have 2 years of experience with each of the following: development of enterprise solutions using modern technologies such as Symfony PHP framework, PHP 5/7, or Doctrine ORM. Specific experience must also include each of the following: working with Object-Oriented approaches; domain-driven design; working with software architectural patterns; producing clear, well-structured, scalable, high-quality code, using existing code standards and refactoring approaches; doing code debugging and profiling; working with existing codebases, design, planning, and analysis of new features, refactoring, and improvements to existing systems using industry best practices; working with eCommerce platforms and process of building retail online stores including integration with 3rd party tools and services using SOAP or HTTP; working with message brokers including RabbitMQ or similar; servicing communications with REST API and JSON-RPC using API Platform framework; working with Atlassian tools such as Jira, Bamboo, Stash, and Confluence; working with web servers such as Nginx or Apache; working with Database Management Systems and databases like MySQL and Microsoft SQL Server; experience with the process of writing integration and unit tests. Must take and pass pre-interview coding test.
