Job Description

Position Overview

Under general direction of the Assistant Warden of Operations, the Corrections Identification Supervisor plans, directs and coordinates the operation of a photographic and fingerprint identification program at a DOC Correctional Facility.  This position supervises staff in the maintenance and operation of the identification programs for both employees and individuals in custody, and requisitions necessary materials and supplies.  If you have a strong background in fingerprinting identification and as a supervisor, this position is for you.  We encourage all qualified applicants to apply.  

 

Job Responsibilities

  1. Supervises staff.


  2. Directs the fingerprinting of individuals in custody.


  3. Monitors all photographic work within the Photo ID program.


  4. Photographs and fingerprints all new employees and maintains that their files are up to date.


  5. Confers with Bureau of Identification, Federal Bureau of Investigation and other government agencies.


  6. Escorts individuals in custody to and from various work assignments.


  7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years high school.

  2. Requires completion of an approved training program in the taking and classification of fingerprints.

  3. Requires three (3) years of experience in fingerprint identification work involving classifying, searching, filing, and making identification of fingerprints.
Preferred Qualifications (in order of significance)

1.  Prefers at least four (4) years of experience methods and techniques in fingerprint capturing and comparison. 

2.  Prefers at least four (4) years of experience working in a correctional setting. 

3.  Prefers at least three (3) years of experience instructing, training, and supervising others in fingerprint capturing and comparing identification procedures. 

4.  Prefers at least three (3) years of experience preparing reports of unusual happenings, accidents or violations of rules by employees, residents, or wards, and operational reports.

5.  Prefers at least four (4) years of experience enforcing disciplinary, safety, security and custodial measures for individuals in custody control.

6.  Prefers at least three (3) years of experience detecting minute differences in fingerprint records. 

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment. 

  2. Requires ability to think clearly and exercise forceful initiative in emergency situations. 

  3. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.

  4. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois.  Please note that although the law has changed, the department will continue to enforce the zero-tolerance drug testing policy.  The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited. 

  5. Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.
