Job Description
Special Education Teacher
Hope Learning Academy in Chicago is seeking a full-time Special Education Teacher to educate elementary students with low-incidence disabilities. The Special Education Teacher will work closely with the general education and special education school team to teach students according to their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and help students develop to their full academic potential while systematically increasing their social and independent functioning skills.
Sp. Ed. Teacher Duties:
- Prepare assessments and present levels of performance for IEP meetings and participate in development of appropriate IEP goals for students. Develop and implement educational activities and programs in accordance with IEP goals.
- Ensure educational activities and programs are functional and age-appropriate to promote achievement of each student’s IEP goals. Plan daily and weekly schedules for each student.
- Complete required ISBE documentation.
- Train and supervise classroom paraprofessionals.
- Determine and use appropriate materials, devices, and equipment necessary for educational activities and programs.
- Use classroom management skills that foster a positive and professional manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must hold valid Illinois Learning Behavior Specialist-1 (LBS 1) teaching certificate.
- Ability to meet all licensing standards of the Department of Human Services and the Department of Child and Family Services.
- Successful background clearance, physical, and drug/alcohol screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years experience as a Special Education Classroom Teacher.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Good interpersonal skills.
