Our Health Science Practice is seeking to hire a Computational Environmental Scientist to join our team. This position could be remote or located in either Reston, VA or Durham, NC.

As a Computational Environmental Scientist, you will:

+ Lead tasks and projects to accomplish client goals and objectives.

+ Work on a diverse team that specializes in identifying and quantifying the effects of environmental pollutants, such as metals, pesticides, and volatile organic compounds, on human health and the environment. For example:

+ We support the Environmental Protection Agency’s Center for Public Health and Environmental Assessment (CPHEA) in developing risk assessments, such as Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) assessments. We also provide fate and transport modeling, exposure modeling, and risk assessment support to EPA’s Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards and Office of Water.

+ We also support the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and the Division of Translational Toxicology (DTT) in conducting systematic reviews and developing reports.

+ Provide computational toxicology, modeling, and cheminformatics expertise to identify potential hazards of environmental chemicals to human health, and to assist in chemical classification.

+ Lead read-across analysis to estimate the toxicity, hazard, metabolism, bioaccumulation, physical-chemical properties, and/or characteristics of chemicals (or classes of chemicals).

+ Assist in toxicological outcome prediction, metabolic prediction, PBPK modeling, or other such data analysis activities using publicly available or tailored tools and methods.

+ Use your knowledge of toxicology or chemistry to make conclusions on biological plausibility of chemical analogs and/or metabolites in order to make sound risk assessment conclusions.

+ Conduct data and statistical analysis involving Excel, Access, and other software, such as R, SAS, Python, SQL, KNIME, and VBA, to summarize trends, develop and execute database queries, and develop and format modeling inputs.

+ Collaborate with other scientists in the fields of environmental health.

+ Synthesize scientific findings and communicate them through various formats and media (e.g., written reports, online websites, visualizations).

+ Follow and implement standardized QA/QC procedures on documents and reports.

As a Computational Environmental Scientist, we would like you to have:

+ Familiarity with publicly available tools for predicting chemical analogs, ADME, PBPK, physical chemical properties, or other chemical characteristics related to hazard estimation.

+ Strong background in QSAR or similar chemical structure-function expertise.

+ Demonstrated coding experience with R, Python, and/or similar languages.

+ Demonstrated experience with database design and queries, data management problem-solving, and scientific coding.

+ Experience managing, analyzing, and interpreting large datasets.

+ The ability to interact with and present project updates to clients and develop quality professional relationships.

Basic Qualifications:

+ Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Computational Toxicology, Cheminformatics, Biomathematics, Computation Chemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related subject.

+ 3+ years of directly related professional experience in a similar role.

Pay Range – There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is :

$68,325.00 – $116,152.00
