Job Description

This is a junior-level position in Contract Services. Under supervision, coordinates, reviews and negotiates contracts of all types, to identify and mitigate contractual risk issues for the procurement of goods and services for Children's Hospital of Chicago Medical Center and its affiliates (collectively, the "Medical Center"). This role is responsible for coordinating, reviewing and negotiating template agreements, quotes, amendments, renewals and other contracts in an extremely fast paced environment, where accuracy and attention to detail are critical. This position works closely with, and effectively interacts with, all members of the Legal Services team as well all levels within the organization. Employs knowledge and skills necessary to recommend and support the development of ongoing process improvements for contract management within the Department and organization.

Essential Job Functions:

Acts as the initial point of contact for all requests for contracts involving the Medical Center (excluding payor contracts and contracts for the Office of Sponsored Programs), including new arrangements, amendments and renewals. Works in close collaboration with Director of Contract Services in carrying out contract management functions. Duties in this area include:
Assist in prioritization of contract queue, including management of urgent requests.
Ensures that all Contract Review Request Forms for assigned contracts are accurate and complete;
Careful review of quotes, bids, statements of work, proposals, amendments and other contracts to ensure appropriate terms;
Negotiates with vendors in accordance with institutional policies and requirements;
Elevates complex issues or agreements to appropriate Contracts team staff.
Works with Legal Services Department staff to track the status and ensure timely execution of documents.

Works independently, and with a high degree of accuracy, to review, negotiate and execute contracts, ensuring terms are consistent with Medical Center policies and Legal Services accepted standards and practices. Reviews and understands organizational business needs and requirements, and ensures that they are appropriately addressed in the business and legal terms in all contracts negotiated to provide appropriate protection of the Medical Center. Collaborates with the Director of Contract Services, Manager of Contract Services, Program Manager, attorneys in the Legal Services Department, Information Management, Corporate Compliance Office and Privacy Office, and Risk Management Office as needed on specialized contract reviews.

Maintains an in-depth knowledge of the functionality of the contract repository system and assists with inputs and contract life cycle matters. Collects and analyzes data to support organizational efforts to ensure appropriate selection of vendors and achievement of appropriate value through the arrangements. Follow up with business owners as necessary on outstanding contract issues, including renewals and terminations. Assesses whether business practices and agreed upon engagement terms are consistent with contract terms.

Works directly with business owners to ensure contract reflects the institutional need and complies with institution policies and procedures. Implements procedures required for information technology or privacy counsel review, as needed. Provides services in accordance with all organizational and Departmental policies and procedures. excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others. Assists with Contract Services department projects, as needed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Minimum of bachelor's degree required. Paralegal certification preferred.
Minimum two (2) years of experience directly related to the position, including mid-level proficiency in contract review, drafting, negotiation and management, preferably in a healthcare environment.
Competent interpersonal and interdisciplinary communication, organizational skills, and efficient time management skills; demonstrates a high level of professionalism.
